Fight Night Round 2

Just got the latest Nintendo Power. Wow. Talk about coming out of the closet. Yes I’m lame, but hey, I got free GBA SP headphones for subscribing, so there. I read it for the articles.

Anyway, they have a big spread for EA’s new boxing game coming to the GameCube in March. I don’t know if it’s coming to other platforms. On the 2+ page spread, you get the usual screenshots and what not..but guess what the big gist of the article is….

PUNCH OUT IS INCLUDED IN THE GAME RIGHT FROM THE MAIN MENU! Yes, the game we all loved in 1987 and 1990 is now back sans Mike Tyson…there are plenty of screen shots of Punch Out game. I’m sorry, I’m supposed to get excited about this new EA boxing game becuase…it has a 17 year old game on it from the main menu? See, I have this thing called MAME, and I believe you can play the Rom for it. Without paying $50.

EA still sucks. And I’m not buying that game, as it’s still part of the boycott. Remember, renting is ok becuase that means EA gets no royalty (the game is already bought). I may have to allow used purchases becuase that indirectly screws EA too of another sale and hey, I’m a compassionate conservative, I know you want to play the games…

    Dan,

You can buy an old NES and the original Mike Tyson with Kid Dynamight for less than 50 bucks!

    Screw EA they are evil!

Ok, if you’re gonna boycott EA, then actually boycott them. This whole, “I’m not gonna buy, I’ll just rent it” thing is nonsense. You’re trying to get the best of both worlds. You get to play the game, but bitch about the company anyway.

Plus, the very fact you are talking about the games will just spread the word to others who come by the site and might wind up encouraging them to buy it regardless of your boycott. If it sounds like a cool game, why not?

So if you’re really going to do this boycott, why not stop talking about the games, the company, etc. altogether instead of trying to have it both ways?

Well, off to play some MVP 2004. Which I bought used, btw.. not because of some damn boycott, but just because I’m cheap! :P

I’ll be honest: I have a John Kerry-esque attitude towards the boycott. I don’t want EA to make money off me, but I do feel I need to comment on the quality of the games…it’s the critic in me. So you’re right, renting is the best of both worlds.

OK so where’s the call for boycotting Take Two, especially the 2K Sports label under which it will publish the third-party exclusive MLBPA game?

Yes they didn’t lock out first party baseball games with the MLBPA license. But that’s probably because they didn’t want to pay for a 100% exclusive.

EA and Take Two are not the only ones gobbling up others and signing exclusive licenses. Why do we only have Spiderman games from Activision?
