Oops! EA Sucks Again
One of the reasons I bought Tiger Woods was becuase on the back of the box it says (Wi-Fi Compatible (Ad-Hoc/Infrastructure). For those that don’t speak PSPglish, Ad-Hoc means PSP-to-PSP and Infrastructure means you can play online with a wireless connection.
Of course, this is horseshit. A quick look at the EA Support site says…
“Unfortunately, there are no PSP titles at this time that support any online play. There has been a misprint on all of the boxes for our launch titles and this mode is not supported. Although Infrastructure mode is not supported, the Ad Hoc multiplayer mode will work on all of our launch titles provided that each player has their own copy of the game.”
Well, first off Twisted Metal is supposed to support online, so that’s a lie. Of course if you were stupid like me and also bought that game, by ‘online’ they mean the cute WiFi light flashes a lot, you can go into the lobby but then you’ll disconnect for some reason. I’m at 100% signal and literally 2 feet from the wireless access point. I am using 128bit WEP for security, but it says 100% signal and no problems, so WTF.
Seroiusly, PSP online makes SegaNet for NFL2K1 look like a T3 line. This freakin blows. Has anyone played a game online with Twisted Metal? Please comment on it. I could be doing something wrong, but I doubt I could get to the lobby if that were the case….

Between that, the load times and the Dead Pixel issue, I can wait…maybe it will come down to 200 soon? I cant see it being 250 at Christmas time…

That’s one of the reasons I’m not that hyped on the initial PSP games. Most support WLAN play (PSP to PSP) but not online play (over the Internet).
Developers are being lazy or there isn’t a good TCP/IP stack available yet for them to use. Or they don’t want to put up servers to support it.
Because if you think about it, unless you’re still a student, you’re not going to encounter that many people on a daily basis who will also have PSPs and the same games. This is also true of the DS and why Nintendo plans to go online with it in the future.
EA has all those servers already. They could have done it but obviously they wanted to race to get games out.
Other features the PSP games should have: multiple online players. If they make online racing games, it better support multiple humans.
Even true of sports games but it appears they will just be one-on-one, whether in WLAN or online mode.
Also, while people may not mind buying rehashes of console games for the launch, it will be a tougher sell later on. Are people going to buy the console version of Madden or the PSP version?
Maybe both if there’s some synchonization supported. Say you start a franchise on the PS2 version and then during the day, you play some of your franchise on the PSP version and then at night, you sync them together.
There’s no easy way to do that with the PS2, unless the publishers host franchise files on some server. The PS3 is expected to allow easier connectivity to the PSP.

oh yeah one more thing. if you did buy an EA game and were not happy about it you can return it. just tell them the online does not work and they will take it back. I did this with Tiger Woods.

I am in total agreence about everything here except for the fact that you can play Twisted Metal online. Have you checked your router settings etc? I play it online all the time. I know it works. But ya……that whole EA thing is total bull shit. The ONLY reason that I bought NFSU was because it claimed to support infrastructure. Isn’t that some kind of false advertisement? I mean can’t we get our money back dirrectly from EA? It just doesn’t seem right to sell a product under wrongfull pretences….. Am I wrong to assume that that is 100% against the law?
