It’s Golf. It’s Online

I haven’t had a chance to give this a whirl yet but I found this link over at DSP today.

Shot Online

Shot-Online is not just an online sports game either, but it is a highly accurate simulation and a deep role-playing experience. It is the RPG quality that makes Shot-Online the unique game it is, especially with the community interaction and the enhancement and leveling of your character.

Speaking of community and role-playing, Shot-Online offers both realistic and rare items drawn from the celebrated history of golf. Practicing every day, competing against players with different skills, allows the gamer to advance their characters abilities. Quests and item exchanging and more add to the community feel

This sounds particulary…different.

I d/l and have been playing a little bit. I don’t enjoy golf in real life and I would say I’m very lukewarm about it in video games.

The game uses anime characters and has a very strong asian feel to the language in the description of things.

The golf engine seems all right to me, but the putting game is very difficult.

The golf game itself feels like a an older generation system with a 3 click swing system. There are only about 5 template characters to choose from and there doesn’t seem to be customization of characters to start, but you can choose to place your skill points where you want when you level up. There is also the ability to buy equipment or clothing with the gold you earn by golfing.

You get paid something on every hole and the amount varies by how well you play.

The MMO aspect seems to be mostly about “chatting” in the “town” with other golfers and pairing up in groups up to four for some match, stroke, or skins play.

I haven’t played a round with another human since I wanted to play a practice round to get my feet wet. I plan to play online with people later today.

Interestingly, I’m as good in the game as in real life. I usually hit the green in 4 and 3 or 4 putt my way through the whole day.

The strongest aspect it has is that it is free for now. I wouldn’t pay to play this or any other golf game for that matter.
