Shameless self-promotion
The first of my trifecta of sports reviews is now showing up over at Gameshark. Today, it's MLB for the PSP. I love the game, what can I say. I'm also happy to say, I don't have to use fucking sliders all day to enjoy the game, unlike some other turd..hmm what could I be talking about...
Next up is Hot Shots Golf and then the biggie -- NCAA 2006. I just know that frequent poster NCAA 2004 will just LOVE my review. Love it.
Speaking of comments, Bill has a good one in the comments section of Todd's post. I guess I'm in the minority on this game as well. But, just becuase you're in the minority doesn't mean you're wrong.
.
For the life of me, regardless of your thoughts on the game; how this game could receive 9's on certain websites just boggles my mind. The GamePro review is quite simply 8 paragraphs of fact sheet and one paragraph of analysis. Every year, I see the same thing: in the rush to get out the review, glaring issues are ignored. Of course everyone is looking for that first review. (Madden's is in GamePro as well, but I'll give them some slack as the game went gold in 1840. Or June, your mileage may vary).
Let me get one thing out there in my typical unbiased way: RACE FOR THE HEISMAN IS A TERRIFIC TURD. IT IS A HUGE PIECE OF SHIT AND BEARS NO ACTUAL RESEMBLANCE TO COLLEGE FOOTBALL. IF YOU SAID IT'S A GREAT NEW FEATURE IN YOUR REVIEW, YOU ARE A COMPLETE FUCKING MORON.
There. I don't think my blood pressure has ever elevated that much from a review.

I’ve been very curious about the reviews of games like Madden and NCAA and posted an article about it on my site. I know it’s a plug, but it seems relevant to what you were saying here.

It drives me nuts that the reviews always seem to give out the same score, if anything, scores should continue to drop as long as they continue to use the same engine and have the same flaws as the previous years games did.

Hey Glen, I went to check out your site and the display was pretty jacked up. Most of it minor, but the main window ovelaps the right sidebar making it tough to read the main page. Have you tested it in Firefox (which is what I’m using)?
July 25th, 2005 - 15:36
Wow, sometimes you guys are just too funny when you completely put down a game. You are not alone in feeling that NCAA 2006 is broke, I completely agree and am contemplating selling it. My only fear now is that the new Madden will suck just a bad.
July 25th, 2005 - 16:36
Todd,
All of my testing for the site is in Firefox.
If you could send me a screenshot of what you’re seeing I would appreciate it.

Well Moss speaking just for myself, if it wasn’t for my buddy coming over once a week to play in our multiplayer dynasty, I would have shelved it or sold it now that my review is done.
As a college game, College Hoops 2K5 beats the ever loving shit out of NCAA 2006 as a solo game. Just utterly destroys it, even with its bugs.
A lot of people love the game, and that’s cool. I have always thought stuff like this is just a matter of what you are willing to put up wuith and NCAA 2006 has so many things that are just flat out broken that I can’t play against the AI anymore.
July 25th, 2005 - 16:38
Glen it works for me. (Firefox user) Very, very cool analysis, too.
July 25th, 2005 - 16:43
Thanks Bill. It was all a hardcoded table tag issue. Damn site betatesters hadn’t been using old school resolutions like 1024 by 768.

Heh. I literally just got switiched over to a new PC today and it was set at 1024×768 (I’ve since upped it a bit). In any case, the site displays just fine now!
July 25th, 2005 - 17:54
Waaahhh Waaahhh I can’t catch, so the game sucks, waaahhhh.
Quit your crying. Just because you suck at the game it’s broke?
See, you 3 didnt get a different copy of ncaa2006, ncaa2006 got 3 different clowns to play it.
When you spend time changing each and every slider and don’t put any time into the game, or a play a season, or LEARN to play the game, this is what you get, a bunch of pansies that always complain. Then every little flaw in the game, you exaggerate 100 times to make the game ‘not fun’ to play for you.
This is getting tiring and old. If you guys want a ultimate sports sim, then go turn on the tv and watch sports. If you want fun, play videogames.
Don’t blame the game because you guys suck at it. Maybe if you ACTUALLY PLAYED the game and didn’t let the CPU do everything for you, you’d know how to catch the ball. Why don’t you just sim all your games if you don’t want to control the players and actually…..PLAY!!
You guys should just change your names to Moe,Larry, and CurlyAbner. Because that’s all you guys are, a bunch of stooges.
July 25th, 2005 - 19:09
Wow. I’d really expect such objectivity from a person named NCAA 2004, too.
July 25th, 2005 - 19:13
Seriously though, you have yet to give any sort of argument for your review.
You call us unable to play the game. Since I’m guessing I’ve played videogames longer that you’ve been alive (as 30somethings, we’ve come to expect a level of maturity that you obviously don’t have), I think I Have a pretty good gaming background.
Online play is a lot of fun. Offline play sucks. It’s not for it being hard, it’s becuase it’s programmed for shit.
Or wait, did you work on the game? No that can’t be, becuase I’d actually have a civil discussion with you.
But really, in all seriousness, thanks for trolling. It really increases the hits. We appreciate it!
July 25th, 2005 - 20:33
Always nice to hear from you NCAA2004. Truly a pleasure to get enlightenment from you, because the three of us are -after all- exceptionally stupid what with having put literally hundreds of hours into this series over the years.
I simply can’t belive that I for one have the audacity to think that a player with 91 hands rating actually catch the ball with the catching slider set to 99 (which of course is the same thing as “time changing each and every slider and don’t put any time into the game”). I guess what separate real gamers like you from the stooges like us is the ability to hit the y button. God do I wish I had your skill. You are an example to us all.
July 25th, 2005 - 21:20
My dad’s name is Larry, actually. Can I just go by Junior, then?
I know trying to have a real discussion with this think-tank is pointless but my problem isn’t the drops as much as it it the ease of beating the CPU by throwing for 600 yards a game by heaving nothing but fly patterns.
And I really don’t expect a “true sim.” I just want a game that’s moderately realistic. We have rattled off several issues with NCAA 2006 and each time it’s the same rhetoric with you. So, according to you, it’s no big deal that the QB sim stats are fucked. That’s just for sim heads who want perfection even though it affects your chance of winning the Heisman.
So what if there are drops. We just suck at playing. So what if it’s too easy to throw bombs all game long against the CPU because…what was the reason I should ignore than again?
Your schtick is the one that is getting old, pal. Don’t blame me because the video game you have crowned as part of your soul isn’t as good as you want it to be. And I think that is what this is really all about. You KNOW we’re right. You don’t want to admit it, but you know we aren’t just making this up and that bugs the shit out of you. You paid your $50. You’ve been a good little EA soldier; my god man you even go by ncaa2004. And this is how EA repays that loyalty? With a broken game. So, what do you do? You bury that anger deeeep down inside you and lash out at three schleps you don’t even know who actually say what they feel. That’s kinda sad.
Why does it bug you this much? I truly have no clue. That’s on you, sparky, not me.
July 25th, 2005 - 21:43
I’ve let you stooges respond, now here is the rebuttal.
1.Easy and quick solution for you guys : ebay.
2.Road to the Heisman isn’t turd! It wasn’t made for the ‘I wanna ultra sim’ crowd. It was made for the kids who want to make themselves in the game. Ya, it’s called Marketing, that’s why EA rules the Videogame world. I think you guys must be ex-sega employees. Nice job on that sega cd idea…..not!
3.What good is a 91 wr catch rating when you dont even control the WR to catch the ball! Just sim the whole game then.
Again, ebay. If you dont like it sell the game and move onto the next victim. I can see it now : madden2006 – ricky williams has a doobie rating of 99 but I can’t find the Pot smoking option in the game, damn ea messed this game up again! – Curly.
July 25th, 2005 - 21:53
It’s ok, ncaa2004. You’re allowed to not like the game. Just let it out. We’re here for you. No one will come to your door and take away your “EA Fan For Life!” button. Those come with the membership, no matter what.
Your silly Madden comment just shows your vulnerable. I really think it all comes down to someone just needing a hug.
…hey I just completed another 60 yard bomb to Santonio Holmes! Woo hoo!
