Madden PC

Played a game tonight of Madden 06 PC. Since it's pretty much the same game as the Xbox I'll keep the notes brief.

-Sliders are still 100 point based so you can make tackling, say, 27 rather than "4 clicks left". I love that.

-The graphics are astoundingly better on the PC. No jersey flicker, no muddy look. It looks pretty damn clean. Of course I have an advanced Radeon video card which helps but hey...you pay for a good video card you get some bang.

-Learning a new control scheme is a pain. My gamepad has dust on it; it's been a while.

-Played a game on default All Pro and the CPU (Peyton Manning) ate me ALIVE. This has never happened on default Xbox settings. In fact it's been the big sticking point with the console version. Manning tonight went 16/24 for 225. He went deep (as in 40+ yards) one time. The rest were 8-12 crossing routes and curls. I was shocked. A fluke, maybe?

  1. Game getting better for me…. “Neo” DBs a bit better now, or maybe I learned how to pass. Anyone see a receiver go out of bounds, then come back in to be the first one to catch it? Happened twice to me today, both for TDs. The QB had time, the WRs tried to get free in back of end zone, each time going WAY out of bounds, catching the ball, and TD. Challenged both times, but they were looking at the catch and the feet at the time, not the run…..

  2. Don’t know about the Xbox but on the PS2, there’s horrible slowdown. Maybe it’s the cone?

Anyways, for an old engine which has just been tweaked for the past 5 years, it looks like it’s at an end for the PS2.

So next-gen may be arriving at the right time, assuming they don’t overload the game with visual effects (will the next-gen game look better from Madden Classic camera than the current game?) to cause slowdowns or poor framerates.

Also, they may be tuning down at least some details for online play. Will be interesting if they’re able to maintain HDTV resolutions in online modes, especially if some people are playing the game on standard TVs.

Then again, the PC version plays online between two people using way different resoultions, refresh rates and other timings.

  3. Bill, have you played online yet? Is there any lag like EA games are known for? Seems every Madden PC game I’ve tried to play online was a lag fest.

  4. I wanted to first say that I was not invovled in this incident about Abner’s daughter. I only posted about how I think he goes overboard on sliders and try’s to make videogames into sim’s too much and doesn’t enjoy the pure fun of it.

You can even ask him that I never posted anything about his daughter.

So stop sending me email’s cussing.

  5. As far as I am concerned the matter is closed.
