Great day for O’s & Yankees fans

This just in: The Red Sox and Marlins have come to a tentative agreement on a trade that would send Josh Beckett and Mike Lowell to Boston for shortstop Hanley Ramirez, right-handed prospect Anibal Sanchez and a minor leaguer pitcher.

Way to give up a great player like Ramirez. The original deal had them also giving up Jon Lester, but now they are saying it’s not that pitcher, so it’s not as ‘great’ for Orioles fans as I hoped. I was in Portland for a few games and saw Ramirez and Lester and I was thinking that they are giving up two players with awesome potential for a ‘good’ pitcher and a tepid 3B. Beckett’s an MVP from a World Series but he’s got a near .500 record, which is great if you’re in Florida but you might get shot if you’re in Boston. Still 15-8 isn’t bad, but it is the NL….

I actually think it’s bad news for the O’s, Jays and Yanks. Beckett just made the Red Sox rotation that much stronger. His stuff is ridiculously good, but he hasn’t always had much in terms of offensive support in FL. Give him some run support and I think Beckett will show good he really his. His ERA is always below the league average. His ERA+ is also above average and has risen every year he’s in the league. As long as he stays healthy (blister problems last year), he’ll be pretty dominant IMO.

I think Lowell might do well in Boston. He’s the type of hitter who’s going to pepper balls off of the green monster. However, he’s still overpaid for his production. That is unless he finds his swing from a few years ago.

I was more concerned for leting Hanley and Lester go…but like I said after I started typing, it wasn’t Lester, so there’s that. Still, it’s not like the Sox have a good SS right now. Renteria’s .203 or whatever isn’t helping.

Then again, we know the Yankees are going to get BJ Ryan, so the Os’ will suck again.

The Yankees were offered Beckett, but they showed no interest, and they did have personnel the Marlins desired.
