XM Vs Sirius
Long time blog readers know I’m a big XM fan. I’ve had it since early 2002 when I then paid $400 at Circuit City to have a huge Pioneer Tuner/FM mod installed. I think although I dumped the car 2 years ago, I’m probably still paying that off on one of my credit cards..but I digress.
I now have 4 XM radios. I am a big music fan. I enjoy the movie High Fidelity. People look at me weird when I have on FRED 44 and know the words to the Smiths songs.
Anyway, the whole Stern thing makes me feel like I’m missing something by not going to Sirius. I’ve tried their free online trial but it’s so crippled you really don’t get the full experience.
I tried going for research on forums, but you know how that goes. Lots of people on xm411.com say that XM is awesome and you can guess what they say on Sirius backstage.
So, I will leave it up to our readers. Any of you out there have had both satellite radios? What do you like? “Stern” and “Opie” are not answers. Well they are, but I know them and what they do. I’m looking for more programming related stuff…
Post your thoughts. Thanks.

If Opie & Anthony make you laugh, then XM is the best for sure. If they don’t but Stern makes you laugh, then Sirius is better by a little. XM is better overall in music offerings in my opinion(XM for 3 years, Sirius for 1 year). But Sirius has some niche stuff, if you need that niche stuff, then Sirius is the only answer.

XM = MLB. That’s all I need to know.

I like the NFL package on Sirius, being able to listen to either team’s broadcast for a football game is pretty entertaining.
I’m also a big fan of the two comedy channels on Sirius. I’ve heard some comedians that I haven’t heard in years on there.

I have both, and honestly they’re both worth $13/month if you love music and sports. It really comes down to personal preference.
Musically, I prefer Sirius. I love music, but I’m not John Cusack from High Fidelity, and there are a lot of songs on XM where I have never even heard of the artist. Sirius seems a little more manageable for me in that there’s always something on that I know and like. Plus, Sirius has the dedicated jam band channel, and I love that. Also, the Chill station is perfect for racing games (beats the hell out of EA Trax.)
At the same time, I appreciate the depth XM has. I’m guaranteed to hear something new every time. The bottom line is that while it’s a luxury to have both, I feel that I get my money’s worth each month.
