STORM OF THE CENTURY!

Well, the sun is out on this day-after-the-blizzard Monday. It really wasn’t as bad as I thought it was going to be. You know what was even funnier? Seeing all the news people try to make it into a disaster, but everyone they talked to was actually excited about all the snow. It was pretty funny.

Thanks for your HD comments, I was glad to see I wasn’t the only one with HD problems with the Olympics. Last night seemed to go much better. I have 2 NBC HD feeds, but only one is in 5.1 surround. Go figure. I also have the Universal HD, which was to show hockey live today, but I had to go to work so I missed it. I did get to watch Knight Rider with my son in HD before work, so that was worth it. Knight Rider rules. They also have Quantum Leap in HD too. God I’m a geek.

Sportsgaming wise, I’ve been playing New Star Soccer 3 for the PC pretty regularly. FIFA it isn’t but it sure is fun. There aren’t many games where calling for the ball all the time will reduce your popularity with your teammates :).

Fight Night is now next week (I thought it was this week, maybe I was wrong), but Full Auto is out this week. I haven’t tried the demo, and I’ve heard good and bad…here’s hoping it will be very good. I’m looking forward to trying out the final game.

Burnout 360 is on the horizon too. I can’t wait for that one. MLB 06 The Show is right around the corner for the PS2, and I have high hopes…

Um, how can Knight Rider be in HD? Do you mean it’s upsampled to fit your HDTV?

  2. Jon Diehl Says:

Universal HD is showing some 20+ year old TV series in HD. Knight Rider and Quantum Leap are among them. Obviously, both shows aired 4:3 when they were on TV, but most of these shows were shot on 35mm film… and just like movies that get the upconverted HD treatment, they’ve doing it to old TV shows now. The difference is that these shows are 4:3 native, so in order to get them to fill a 16:9 screen, the have to crop the original image while upconverting.

BTW - New Star Soccer 3 is a really great game. Been playing for a couple of months and it still has me hooked. I don’t know squat about soccer and really didn’t care about the sport at all, but this game has made me get off my proverbial tail and do some research. Not many games can say that…

Craig, you ignorant slut. If you had Universal HD, you would see how it works. They even put 80s series Square Pegs in HD!

Thanks Jon for giving Craig the heads up.

Agreed about the New Star Soccer, it is amazing and addictive.

Actually, I guessed that they were upconverting, but my point was that if it was originally 4:3 and in SD, then it is not now in HD, but upconverted to fit HD dimensions.

    Craig -

I’m an OAR whore too. I hate it when they hack up the aspect ratio at the expensive of losing infomation that’s supposed to be there. However, these shows don’t look all that terrible cropped, but I would have preferred the original 4:3 frame upsampled with black pillarbars, but then people would complain that the HD channel isn’t showing 16:9 HD material.
