OpSports NBA 2k7 Review

I hope to pickup NBA 2k7 as a rental later today. If I can, I’ll try to get some impressions up as soon as possible, though I won’t have a lot of time to play this week (lots homework from the day job to do). In the meantime, there’s a fairly thorough review of NBA 2k7 up at Operation Sports. It highlights a lot of improvements and a lot of areas where the reviewer thinks the game is lacking. It’s a much better read than the cookie-cutter stuff up at the general gaming sites. Here’s a snippet from the conclusion:

I’m going to make this really simple: this is the greatest basketball game I’ve ever played. This is also the greatest one year leap I’ve ever seen in a series. I wasn’t as crazy about NBA 2K6 as many of the fans and other reviewers were. I felt it was a decent but flawed game and it looked great when compared to the competition but average on its own. NBA 2K7, however, fixed almost every single flaw in last year’s game and add an unbelievable amount of animations and features.

I’m going to say that NBA 2K7 is amazingly disappointing and I am quite surprised by Op Sports review. 10/10??? No chance.

Check out free throws, those things that decide games once in a while. If you have 2 throws, the first will be from one angle and the second from another angle making free throws damn near impossible. You can’t practice them because that’s from a third angle! This alone subtracts two whole points.

I’m in love with 2K7. I played two games last night and didn’t have any issues with the game other than missing some damn bunnies from 3 feet in, like I always do.

In my opinion, the game is rock solid… and probably not worthy of a 10, but definitely is in the 9 to 9.5 range. It’s the best game of basketball that I’ve ever played, bar none.

Then I’d say the 10 id warrented, Glen.

    10/10 (or 5/5, 100%, A+, whatever) doesn’t, or shouldn’t, mean a perfect game.

I’m finally getting mine tonight so I’m anxious to see what the hubbub is about.

That’s funny that you put it that way Bill, as that’s exactly what I was thinking about the game this morning. It is the most fun and most exciting game of basketball that I’ve ever played. So, for me at least, it’s a 10 in my book. I just wish I would stop missing those 3 foot jumpers when I expect the dunk animation to kick in.
