Quick Sports Weekend Wrap Up
The Bucks looked really sloppy and trudged through a 37-7 win against Cincy. The game was closer than that score, actually. 13-7 at the half. We call this in Columbus a "Texas hangover." Still, it's the sign of a good team when you can play that flat and still win by 30. Plus, Cincy always plays OSU tough. A lot of emotion in that game for the Bearcat players who didn't get recruited by OSU. Next week when Penn State comes to town, I expect the Bucks to be ready to roll.
The Browns? Well, this may or may not be the worst Browns team in history -- but they are definitely invited to play in the tournament. The Browns are really, really, really, bad. They actually regressed from 2005, when they went 6-10. The Browns will struggle to win this year. At all.
Still, make sure to watch SportsCenter (if you can stomach a SportsCenter broadcast, which is not easy to do) to see Brian Russell's hit on Chad Johnson.
YEOW.
NFL Sunday
Watching the Buffalo - Miami game and NYG - PHI using Picture in Picture ( I wish PIP was in HD, but oh well)
First play from scrimmage: Gumbel says "Dante begins the game throwing up"...I love sports commentators. He meant up the field, but it sounded like he was vomiting. That's why I didn't start Culpepper in Fantasy today.
Fantasy Football Update
Since not all of our owners have email I wanted to make sure you know that our fantasy page is updated. Every week I write up a fantasy forecast and a recap. Check it out here.
Friday Night Thoughts
Last night's Colbert Report interviewed Bill Simmons from ESPN Page 2 fame. I was rather surprised that his on air presence was..uh...not so great. Hey I'm a huge fan of his writing, but when I've heard him on the radio and seen on TV...there's just something missing.
Life on Mars is a fantastic show on BBC America. It just wound up but if you have BBC on Demand, it's worth checking out.
Interesting that the XM Sports Nation show is sponsored by the NFL Network...you know the NFL is on Sirius, right...hmmm.
I wonder when the Disney channel will show the Cheetah Girls 2 in German, with English subtitles.
The Who were on David Letterman. I was really hoping for the CSI theme song...oh well.
Justice on FOX is a fun show to watch. Love the Alias guy as a lawyer. Fantastic!
Next week more and more shows return. Yay! I have a simple life, no?
Excited about football tomorrow...if a 1-AA team get knock off a Big 10 powerhouse, you never know what's going to happen....Clemson-Florida State will be interesting. I wonder how many extra points they'll miss. Heh.
Alright, gotta hit the hay and work tomorrow. Joy!
NBA 2K7
Wow. Download this now. It's a 5 min one quarter game between the Heat and Mavericks. I hate to judge the entire game on 5 minutes, but damn, this is good.
Did I mention?
...that the new LEGO Star Wars game was fun? I'm (I mean we. Ashley won't let me near this thing without her) are about to wrap up Episode IV.
Greedo in LEGO form = sold.
Wii is $250 and comes with Wii sports
I like the idea of the Wii. I really do. However, all the "team concepts" that are being put into this seem odd. Why do we only get one controller if it's so awesome for multiplayer, for example?
Nintendo officially said that the console will release on Sunday 11/19, cost $250, and will come with the Wii Sports game. I think the idea is great, however:
1. You will have to put sensors all over your TV to get the wii-mote to work. I hope it's somewhat easier than Samba de Amigo's maracas, but I doubt it. Oh goody, more TV wires. How great.
2. $250 is higher than I thought for a GameCube deluxe.
I mean I'd buy this over a PS3, which is just ludicrous, but still, I was hoping for $199.
All set with Test Drive
Thanks to blog reader Bob Thayer, I have downloaded the referral code bonus for Test Drive Unlimited.
NBA 2K7 demo out on marketplace
I think the title speaks for itself
.
In other news, I played some Texas Hold 'em for about 3 hours last night. Fun game. And my goodness, there are some cheesers online.
I'm gonna go download the demo before work. Won't be able to play it, but at least I'll have it.
I can't believe I spent $5 on Scramble. Yikes.
Congrats
I can't believe this, but congrats to Craig T of South Carolina who was the winner of the Dead Rising game. You should be receiving your game soon. Again, special thanks to Capcom and M80 for providing the game for our readers.
In other news, how about those Orioles? What a major disappointment. At least there's football season.
Geeks and Games
I went to vote in the primary today and I was the only one there. The ONLY one, aside from the moderators. And yet people will bitch about the candidates that won today. What-eva.
Hey, if you have Test Drive Unlimited and want to be my friend for the referral program email me your referral code so we can both get 2 free cars. I will post again once I have a code.
NHL 2K7 is fun. I love the Canadian play by play. The game plays like it always has, which isn't a bad thing. I think it looks better than last year. Billy Boy is doing the review for this one, so I can just enjoy it
. And Cinemotion is rather interesting for those that don't want commentary. I love the drop pass. Now, keep in mind, hockey isn't my #1 sport so I am not as anal about it as say, a lack of linesmen in FIFA...but I do note the ref is out on the ice and declares players onside. Now that is cool.
I'm watching the Daily Show right now; the parody of Bush on a GEICO ad is hysterical.
Anyhoo, I was just going to gamefly lego star wars, but now Bill makes me buy it. What a choad.
Tivo has released their Series 3 HD unit. Only $799. Oh and $300 for two CableCards. And of course the monthly fees. Oh and it doesn't work with Home Media Option, or Tivo to Go. Where do I sign up?
Ah, Fun
LEGO Star Wars II on the 360 is going to get a ton of play in my house. Ashley is loving it and the fact that I can sit right next to her and have just as much fun is a real treat. We played the first two levels and right now it's a smashing success.
Games Games Games…and Jason Whitlock
First off, Whitlock. Those that know me outside of the wonderful world of blogging know that as a rule I cannot stand the sports media. I blame ESPN for that because without the network giving some of these idiots a platform to show just how boorish they are, I'd have never known. Lupica, Ryan, Plaschke, right down the line. They want to be the story , and I just can't wrap my brain around it. Keep an eye out for the next time you see Jason Whitlock (he's the rather rotund ex-football player turned media hatchet man that subs in on PTI (so I am told, I never watch that shit) and writes for Page 2 and the KC Star.)
I don't mind it when people pick against my Buckeyes. We all have opinions and that's the way it should be. But when a columnist says, "I will stake my reputation as a college football analyst on it..Texas wins by two touchdowns." Shouldn't he be called out on it? Even if you're an OSU hater, wouldn't that rub you a tad the wrong way if it was your team he was talking about? I'm curious if he'll have the stones to man up on that little pearl of wisdom.I doubt it.
It's a big game day today. LEGO Star Wars, Company of Heroes and a little 2K Sports Hockey. Dan has the 2K game, and I have LEGO for the 360. (Ashley is stoked to play that one..) and impressions are soon to follow.
Guitar Hero: As Good as Advertised
Bill was gracious enough to loan me his PS2 when we visited in Columbus last week. I've since picked up Guitar Hero and it's just as good as the hype suggests. The first night I sped through all of the available tracks in the Easy mode. The next day I hit all the Mediums, except Bark at the Moon. Wow. What a bitch that is. (I was very lucky to escape Cowboys from Hell. The crowd sentiment meter was flashing in the red when the song ended.) Anyway, I finally got past it a couple nights ago and have started playing the game on Hard. That difficulty level is aptly named. Getting used to shifting your fingers on all five frets (which you can get away without doing on Medium, since it only uses four of them), I was able to get through the first set of songs, but the second set is giving me trouble.
My only complaint is that on these harder difficulty levels it's really hard to keep up with some of the sequences. Not just playing them, but actually seeing what you're trying to play. Some spots I can't tell if I'm seeing a chord (two notes, simultaneously) or two separate notes flying by. That makes it tough to figure out how you're supposed to be playing the song. It would be nice if you could do a post-mortem when you fail a song and be able to scroll through the track and see which notes you hit and which notes you missed, so you could observe exactly how you should be playing a track.
Fortunately, there are a couple of sites out there that have transcripted the fingerings for the game. I may have to employ those if I'm to progress any further.
I already feel like I can't wait to pick up Guitar Hero 2. Does anybody know if it's official that the game will eventually come to the 360? I've seen a few less-than-specific references to it going cross-platform, but no mention of when.
Fantasy news, other updates
Week 1 is complete and you can view all our fantasy league scores right here. The guy with the auto draft actually won his game. Now that's funny. Good news for me, starting Culpepper and leaving Baltimore's defense on the bench didn't cost me the game. It fits my strategy of winning with the fewest points possible so everyone gets pissed off at me when they rack up 130 points but still lose 131-130 and I win 58-40.
In other news, I received NHL 2K7 (The 2K game) yesterday. Love the Canadian play by play, eh? Fun game so far...but really want to try NHL 07 too with their new right stick shooting scheme. I believe that Lego Star Wars comes out today for the 360. So many games, so little time.
