Mark May Be Wrong

Ya know, over the past few months I have been tinkering with the idea of making another non-sports game related blog. I wanted to make one that focused on the accuracy, or inaccuarcy as the case may be, of college football analysts. If you read this blog with any regularity, you know how much I hate the sports media in this country.

Looks like three fellas named Brian, Dan, and Tom beat me to the punch -- and how.

Check out Markmaybewrong.com to get a look at how the analysts are doing this year when it comes to playing Nostrodomus.

Herbie...poor Herbie.

Terry Bowden is ON. *golf clap*

"...there is a small percentage of college football “fans” who insist on ruining a good thing. They are sometimes called “journalists” or “television commentators,” “pundits” or “talking heads.” Others may call them “assholes” or “full or shit” or even on rare occasions "a penis.” (See Corso Gameday sign)

They insist on trying to pass off their opinions as facts, their personal feelings cloud their judgment, and they recklessly predict the outcome of every game with no one holding them responsible.

These "professionals" get paid to do what we do for free, and the only repercussions they will get for sucking is . . . well nothing (maybe a promotion). College football is the only sport where the media has a significant say in deciding the National Champion. One need look no further than Auburn in 2004 when they were screwed out of a shot at the National Championship Game because they were held in lower esteem by the media early in the season.

Well, that is where we come in.

Our mission at markmaybewrong is to document, evaluate, and publicize every prediction, statement, or off-handed remark any self-proclaimed college football expert makes in a public forum."

Good stuff.

  1. Anybody who says that Auburn got robbed in 2004 instantly loses all credibility.

    Auburn got what they deserved.

Let Auburn take a lesson from Arkansas: just because you get whalloped by USC in the first game fo the season, it doesn’t mean your season is over. You don’t have to fold your tents and play like crap for the rest of the year. It is possible to realize that USC was just flat out better than you, and that you can work to improve yourself and still have a great season in spite of that loss.

If Auburn does that in 2003, then all things being the same for the 2004 season, they get a shot.

But if you do like Auburn did in 2003, then you reap what you sow.

  2. Huh? Got what they deserved? Auburn went undefeated in 2004.

  3. The media would moan if a playoff system were in place for college football.

You know, let the teams have to earn the #1 slot.

  4. 2004 is not a vacuum.

Auburn was supposed to be very good but not great in 2003. The paper tigers lost 24-0 to USC to open the season in 2003, and then went on to stink up the joint and negatively affect the Trojans strength of schedule. Then OU went and got whacked by K-State in the Big-12 Championship game, yet OU still managed to end up with .01 or something more BSC points and go to BCS Championship game over USC.

Had Auburn in 2003 manned-up and played well after that opening loss, USC would’ve passed OU in the BCS standings. But instead in 2003 USC got robbed the worst of anyone in the history of the BCS sham.

Auburn started 2004 way way way down in the polls, just like they deserved after tanking the 2003 season. Auburn was unable to climb far enough up the polls to make the championship game in 2004. Auburn got exactly what they deserved.

Compare Auburn 2003 to Arkansas 2006. Arky Rocks, auburn sucks! :)
