Whoa, TiVo!

Y’all know I’ve been a huge fan of TiVo every since 2002 when my ReplayTV became incompatible with my cable company service (IR blasters suck). I have 2 Series 2 boxes with lifetime.

I was contemplating biting the $800 bullet and getting the Series 3 HD unit because from now until the end of the year, TiVo will let me transfer lifetime service to a Series 3 for $199.

It is very tempting…especially since now TiVo has decided to rape monthly users of the service, charging $19.95 a month instead of $12.95 a month for those opting to go month to month. In order to get $12.95/mo, you’ll need to commit to three years of service. What’s more annoying is that no one seemed to notice this, instead they are focusing on the fact that you can download stuff to your TiVo. Big Whoop!

While my Series 2’s aren’t going anywhere, they sure are doing everything they can to make sure I keep my Echo Passport Cable DVR…

What a letdown. A 54% monthly increase means they are trying to get out of the industry I think…
