Are you getting Windows Vista next week? Why or why not? Post in comments.
For me I’m going to pass, because quite frankly, I play games on my PC like never, when compared to consoles. The fact that my “main” pc is next to the consoles probably makes that decision. I have a P4 2.2 700XL gateway system that’s now 5 years old and I’ve replaced pretty much everything on it but the processor. I know it’s going to die soon. My “travel/work” PC is a Sony VAIO which is very nice, but not really a gaming PC. The only game I play on my PC these days is GameTap…which doesn’t have steep system requirements.
It will be interesting to see what happens with the Games For Windows experiment though….

Nope. There is nothing (yet) that is compelling about Vista. DirectX 10? No games (yet). Also, I hate it when people shove crap down my pie hole without asking nicely. AeroGlass UI? Who cares, it’s a UI. Better navigation tools? Sorry, already got those, for free. Better security? Sorry, I’ve fixed all the holes in XP, thanks.
I realize that in a couple of years, I will have to get it, but I see no reason to get it until at least 2008.

I usually wait at least a year or until the first service pack comes out before I give a new Microsoft OS a try. I’m very happy with XP at this point and even though I know this PC should be able to run Vista, with all of the enhancements… I just can’t think of a reason to jump into it.

Vista is actually REALLY cool. I’ve been using it for a few weeks now (MSDN subscription) and it’s got a lot of nice enhancements. The folder navigation is especially nice. I am still using XP on my main machine because I wanted to be sure all of my everyday programs would work (a few still don’t), so I’m not switching entirely yet…but it is definitely looking good. Maybe by summer I will be exclusivly on Vista…but for now, I will just roll with it on my second partition and have a good time with it.
