The Badgers just keep on rolling along
After playing hockey tonight with a group of friends we sat around and talked about the Badger basketball win tonight. For those of you that haven't noticed, the Badgers are 20-1 and are ranked second in the country right now. Tonight they started the game down 9-0 and managed to run away with the game, building a 24 point lead before winning the game 71-58.
I'm sure that your local sports team has had an amazing year or two in their history... but things like this haven't happened up here. The funny thing is, it seems like most people in the local media... and especially the national media, just don't care.
When Bo Ryan (probably the best basketball coach that you've never heard of) started coaching basketball at the UW in 2001, Wisconsin only had 4-20 win teams in their history... and two of those occured in the 5 years before he got here. This was a basketball program that was celebrated when it attained mediocrity. Fans went berserk when they actually got to host an NIT game in the 80's.
I know that there is over 2 months left to go in the college hoops season, but I just wanted to make people aware of how impressive this season is for Wisconsin basketball.

regular season NCAA basketball doesn’t matter. maybe the big rivalry games will get some attention, but good luck looking for info on any college basketball team during the regular season (unless undefeated ala st joe’s a few years back).

Welcome aboard Glen!
It has been a good year for Wisconsin sports all around, hasn’t it? Didn’t take long for them to adjust to a new coach in football and the BB team is having a great year. Didn’t I just hear that the hockey team beat #1 Minnesota? As an FSU fan, it is sort of going the other direction, although the football team is finally addressing the assistant coach situation. Still, it is Gator nation 24/7 in the Southeast.
(I tried to edit my previous post, but ended up deleting it. I didn’t feel it was appropriate to welcome Glen aboard and spell his name wrong)

Why kevin, why do you have to bring up the loss my beloved Gopher puck team took? We had 3 pipes and a few loose pucks behind the goalie, all to no avail.
To be fair, last night’s basketball game was not very indicative of a good win, because you should have spotted us 20 at the start.
All we have at the UofM is Hockey.

Did someone decide to talk about college hockey? Ah, that warms my heart. Yeah, the Badgers did take 1 of 2 from the Goofers in Madison. They played some great hockey that weekend and deserved the 2 points that they got.
The hockey team is struggling a bit this year after losing their top 5 scorers from last season, but at this point I’m not really all that troubled. I got to to sit in the Bradley Center and watch them win their 6th national championship last year. That memory will keep me happy for quite a while.
Wisconsin sports are going pretty well right now… things are quite a bit better than when Don Morton nearly destroyed the football program by running the Veer in the 80′s.

Ok, why is it (terrible generalization coming) ALL WI people cling to the number of championships they have had? The school won their 6th? Sure they did but that squad, the one you watched won THE national title. packer fans that are here in MN are just as bad at it. Doesn’t matter how many you’ve won, its how many you win with the squad as assembled…THE only one title that team could win.
I’d be a fool to say the gopher football team is going to win their 7th(?) national football title..when we know the 60′s were great to MN college football and we’ve not even sniffed a decent team since.
Sorry, rant off. More of an observation.

I think you need to chill a bit Ryan. The way you put it, Gopher fans would never think about the greatness of their past… of course if I had to listen to Woog call all of my games on TV… I wouldn’t think about the past then either.
I think you just look at the current team because you don’t want to think about that Holy Cross game last year.
Just goofing around with you.
Oh, and back to basketball… all of the positive Badger basketball mojo may now be in the toilet after the recording of this song.

Nothing that is created because of ABBA ever turns out well.

Woog is like watching John Madden. Actually one could play a drinking game on his woogisms.
Glad to hear a hockey fan is around, maybe our paths will cross someday at the final five.

Manhattan College is a good example. MAAC powerhouse and killed a few top ranked teams in the NCAA — but then Fran Franscilla left. :/

Sounds good Ryan.
I was up at the Final Five last year, but won’t be making it this year as my wife is due to have our 2nd child right around that time.
Maybe next year.
