The physics of the Gyroball
One of the more interesting aspects of Daisuke Matsuzaka coming over to the U.S. to pitch for the Boston Red Sox is the fact that he, supposedly, throws a pitch that is referred to as the Gyroball. Over at CNNSI.com today they have a very interesting article about the physics of the pitch and the fact that Matsuzaka may not actually use the pitch at all. It's a very interesting look at the physics of the Gyroball as well as what happens when other pitches are thrown. Well worth a look.

While the intricacies of the gyroball and the related physics talk was interesting, I was most amazed by this:
“…he gutted out a 17-inning, 250-pitch win, then tossed a no-hitter in the final.”
It takes an 18 year-old with a magic arm to pull that off! Incredible. Should be interesting to watch Matsuzaka this summer.
