Here Come the Hammer…er..Wallace

Any board gamers play this by chance? It came in the mail today and looks really cool in a Scottish Rebellion-Longshanks-sorta way.

  1. I have not, but I did pick up BattleLore today after reading about your success and then checking boardgamegeek….Just setting up the game now. Going to do a couple runthroughs of Agincourt before getting into it with my brother this weekend.

Thanks again for the heads up on the game. It looks great.

I wish I was good at miniature painting!

By the way Bill, have you ever played War of the Rings? Pretty fun game if you are a fan of the books and\or movies. We have enjoyed it, although it seems to be weighted in the bad guys direction….I hear the expansion and\or house rules helps fix that.

  2. Chris,

Cool! BLore is great, but Agincourt is really, really barebones ruleswise. Wait til Lore and the full war council rules are added. It gets better. That damn game is utterly addictive.

WotR is the next game on the buy list (that and Tide of Iron). And yeah, I hear the add-on really helps it, too.

If you like BLore you may also want to check out the other games in the C&C line.

  3. Yeah I just finished a runthrough by myself and it was pretty much the same thing back and forth. I am going to move onto the next couple chapters.

Definitely can not wait for Tide of Iron. Hopefully the April date is set in stone and it won’t keep getting pushed back.

By C&C do you mean Commands and Colors?

  4. Ahem….I think I should get the props for the Battlelore lead :)

Just kidding, I started painting my mini’s this past weekend. This is going to take a while since i have 2 sets.

  5. picked up BLore as well because of here. And pitchcar. Breaking them out this weekend.

  6. Ah, PitchCar. Totally love that game, especially with Ashley. I will absolutely buy the expansion as soon as money permits. Let me know what you think, Ryan. Very simple game, but highly addictive and fast-playing.

And yeah, I’m painting right now as well, and I am finding it much more difficult than my old warhammer figs because the BLore stuff is so damn small. Still…any color is better than pale gray.

  7. will be playing with the 10 and 7 year olds this weekend for pitchcar. I will definately let you know.

  8. Bill or Dan,

Could you suggest a website or something I can use to get started on miniature painting? I have come to the realization that countless hours will be used to play BattleLore and dont want to stare at grey miniatures.

So keeping in mind that I am a beginner (not sure if that matters) how would you suggest I get started?

    Thanks for your help.

The beginner’s guide is a good place to start.

  10. Chris -

There is a painting guide on the offical site. Also do a google search for a battle lore fan site called battlemaster it has excellent stuff.

I will suggest one things, do a black spray primer on the figure before painting. then you can get away with just doing so light painintg on certain areas and it looks good.
