So, Legends and 2K8…

First off: the Tom Sawyer Remix? That’s just…wrong. I hate when remixes screw up a perfectly great song.

So the Legends are rolling into AP Football 2K8.

Question: Does this change your opinion about the whole, “Just shut up and play” stuff? Does this get you excited at all? Are you excited about the $60 price tag? (That’s what’s listed.)

Look, I want 2K to get back into the football ring as much as anyone. Madden just doesn’t do much for me; it’s just stale at this point. But will a Legends game without real NFL teams and no franchise mode and no editing tools work for you? Jerry Rice, starting WR for the Palooka Lightning! To be fair, the next time 2K Sports designs a pro football game with a good franchise mode it will be the first time, so maybe this isn’t such a bad thing? I’d rather it not be there than to be crap, ya know? Granted, the lack of an editor just makes no sense to me whatsoever but that’s a rant for another time.

We’re looking at around 240 Legends. That’s a lot of Legends. They need name players to make this work, no doubt about it. If 2K designed a 100% fictional game with all of the editing tools in the world — it would fail. I’d be cool with it, but I know I am not in the majority on that. So I totally get what they’re doing with all of these classic players.

You can do a Fanasty Draft and play with all of these guys: “Draft your dream team from football’s legendary players–over 240 of them.”

This is where I’m a tad leery.

Will people have an All-Star team of great players? How will that work, exactly? Will teams have weaknesses?

Yes coach, we have Barry Sanders at HB and Elway at QB and the 1982 Redskins OLine and yeah…that’s Lambert at linebacker and watch out for Jack Tatum at safety…he hits like a tank.

I dunno. I’m one that likes to see teams with weaknesses. How do you exploit a team of All-Pros and Hall of Famers? OK, do I throw at Lester Hayes or Deion? Hmm..on second thought I’ll just keep giving it to Earl Campbell.

Again, we still don’t know how any of this will actually work so I don’t want to jump the gun here. I’m just hoping the talent is spread out a bit, that’s all. I love old time sports so I’m cautiously optimistic about all of this.

So — does this get you jazzed at all?

Hey, Elway at QB? There’s your weakness. Prick. Colts mover! I wish he did go play baseball. Asshole.

  2. Glen Says:

    You’re dead on Dan.

I always hated those Coors Light commercials where they talked about him playing for one team for his entire career. Never mind the fact that the jerk held the Colts hostage until they traded him.

    Dick.

  3. Glen Says:

And of course Bill wants to see a team with weaknesses, he’s been watching the Browns for years. Zing!

I’ll be here all day. Try the veal.

  4. Nathan Says:

Sure looks like roster management is going to be de-emphasized in this game. I guess for a game without a franchise mode, that’s not going to hurt it too bad.

I think this is going to be one of those “It is what it is” games…plays a nice game of football (hopefully), good multiplayer, and that’s about it.

    Nathan, yeah.

I’m just in a holding pattern on this game until we find out more details.

I’m also assuming, like you, that multiplayer is the focus.

Will the legends be mixed with fictionals? With 240+ players that’s like what..11 teams with 22 players?

I’m assumimg they will be mixed in with average joe-no names to make the teams less “stacked.” But again, who knows?

–The Browns have more than “weaknesses” they have cancerous tumors.

  6. Glen Says:

I just have a hard time seeing the $60 price tag for the bill of goods that we’re being sold at this point.

Bill, I feel your pain. The Packers had those issues throughout the 70’s and 80’s. Hopefully it will turn around sooner rather than later.
