Thanksgiving
1. First off to all of our American readers, I hope you have a great holiday.
2. Second, I just finished going through 23,598 Thanksgiving day circulars and I have to say I’m not impressed. If you want to wait at Best Buy at midnight for their 5AM opening to save $100 on a TV that you wouldn’t normally buy anyway, be my guest. I guess video game wise there are some decent deals, say if you don’t already have a 360 and Guitar Hero, but there’s nothing there that I would get out and wait in the cold for. Orange Box PC for $34 at CC isn’t bad, if you don’t already have Orange Box.
3. I stayed up playing the drums on Rock Band until 2AM last night. Yes, it’s addictive and difficult. I’m playing Easy and I’ve only 5-starred a couple of songs. I may have to go to the guitar. I’m a sucker for these music games, I know I said I wasn’t going to buy it. Oh well…oh and Bill Harris, still plenty of Rock Bands. They are even at K-Mart and they’re open today. lol.
4. Needing a new game for the zapper, I picked up Ghost Squad. I figure hey, it’s a shooting game by Sega…it’s a lot of fun, but my son finished the game in 30 minutes. Jury is still out on the Wii Zapper for me. The aim just doesn’t seem right to me. I’m curious to check out Time Crisis 3 and see if there’s any difference.
5. I played Unreal Tournament 3 last night and came away impressed. It looks and plays great. Funny how Crysis needs it’s own portable generator to run 30fps in SLI mode but Unreal 3 seems to not have any problem at all.
6. Time for Turkey…

Thank you for saying you have been playing the drums on easy and only 5 starring a few songs. I keep reading from others about acing it on Medium and higher and was feeling my age (38). Nice to see others are out there just like me.
But playing the drums on this game is just insanely fun. When they get a full album download for U2 and I can be Larry Mullen Jr. I’ll probably be in my office/game room for a week straight.

Oh mean you aren’t kidding. If there is a U2 pack, I will pay 1,000 points for it. Speakin of, did you just get the 20th anniversary re-release of the Joshua Tree? It comes with a great DVD of them in Paris. I don’t ever recall seeing them do the Unforgettable Fire or Exit…I think they did Exit on Zoo TV but it was abridged…or maybe it was Ultraviolet…

You guys cant 5 star all of the EASY songs? Woah. Wait until you guys get to HARD. The difficulty ramps up significantly from MED to HARD.
What about the guitar sections? Are you having an easier time with those? You can tell that the guitar was made for party goers and not necessarily Guitar Hero players. You will be able to 5 star all of the songs on HARD soon. Im not sure about EXPERT, yet.
Im glad you guys are enjoying it. Also, if you struggling with the drums, make sure that your red pad is not malfunctioning. There seems to be 2 different sets of drums that have been shipped. One is rumored to be defective, while the other not so much. Just a thought.

I’m going to try and deal with customer service for Rock Band tomorrow. There is something clearly wrong with my drum pads. My wife is bringing home some medical tape so I can try that out… but I don’t have high hopes for it.

Im not sure if this helps or not, but the kid who taped his drum kit (the pics I sent in an earlier comment section) has posted a video on youtube after the “fix”:

5 starring the hardest song in the game, on expert no less. The tape worked very well for him. I hope that it works for you too man.

I have not picked up the DVD set yet. Was just going to buy the iTunes version but now I’m not so sure. Do you think the DVD is worth the extra $?
RumbleDan, as far as expert goes, I have no aspirations of ever being able to get there…but I’m having enough fun on the lower levels that that won’t matter. But the Guitar sections seem WAY easier on Rock Band than Guitar Hero III although I’ve spent most of my time on the drums.
