Wednesday notes
Sorry about the lack of the podcast for the past week or so. I was out of town last week and while we were supposed to record the show last night, I got taken out for an early birthday celebration with some friends last night… and tonight we’re actually going out to celebrate my birthday, so we’ll try to get the show recorded either Thursday or Friday.
- I received a ton of MLB Power Pros 2008 screens yesterday. I’m hoping that I’ll have time at some point in the next day to resize them and post them. I’ll let everyone know when they’re available. The new game modes look like a good deal of fun. Plus, it seems like the Stadiums look a bit better as well.
- What does everyone make of the rumors that Microsoft is making a ‘motion controller?’ I honestly don’t know why their bothering with it for this generation. It’s not like that they’ll steal any of the Wii’s thunder by creating a controller like that for the 360. Got me.
- Have you seen the image for Guitar Hero’s drum set? I like the idea of having the cymbals on top, but I think that almost cinches the fact that the Rock Band drums won’t work for this. If that’s the case, I’ll probably be dropping out of the Guitar Hero franchise. I don’t need to have two pretend drum kits in my gaming room.

I’ve seen reports that Sony is making a Wii type controller as well. I think it actually makes good sense. If they can get it up and running, they can do some easy ports of Wii games over the last few years of this cycle.
They will then be ready for the next with more types of controllers for the next generation. I saw that MS is releasing another trivia game that will use the Big Button controller from Scene It. They need to jump on the band wagon and exploit it as a great party game.
I’ve had friends over playing Scene It a couple of times now, and it really is a blast in that setting. If I were MS, I’d bundle Scene It with all new 360’s this Christmas and promote it with similar commercials to what Nintendo does with the Wii.
It’s a crime that there is no word of a You Don’t Know Jack game coming that could use this controller.
I know that you can actually get the same function with regular controllers, but the Big Button controller really does just make the game feel accessible to non-gamers. Getting these in as pack-ins would go along way in helping MS market the 360 as a party console, which is where they are getting creamed by the Wii.
