Tuesday thoughts
Some quick notes before I watch Hell's Kitchen:
* Got Battlefield Bad Company today. Awesome!
* Think I might get the Rock Band Pixies pack.
* There's a demo for Don King Prizefighter, so if you don't believe what I said in the Podcast, try it for yourself.
* No idea where Glen is. LOL
Alizee vs Coldplay
Hey, you know about the guy on You Tube saying Coldplay ripped him off right..well while I was downloading the Coldplay album to Napster I was listening to the song...and my goodness, doesn't the opening sound like J'en ai marre by Alizee. I'm not the only one who thinks this because there are few YouTube comparisons, like this one, or this one.
And of course, for those that need a re-introduction to Alizee, here's the full length video that set the crazy dance for the World Of Warcraft Female Night Elf...
Incredible Technologies on WiiWare!
I missed this last month but Incredible Technologies, the makers of the awesome arcade game Golden Tee Golf, are going to put up games on Wii Ware! Of course, why would they put up Golden Tee Golf..nope, instead we get "Target Toss Pro: Bags." Just make it Wi-Fi compatible okay? Thanks. Here's what the arcade game looks like.
Other gaming news
I bought Guitar Hero On Tour today. It's fun but the controller keeps popping out of the GBA slot. I think the Gamespot review is too harsh and the IGN review is too easy. I think they should have had a happy medium.
NCSX Talks Super Mario Stadium
The official import store of the BSG has posted their throughts about the Japanese Super Mario Stadium Baseball game for the Wii. I didn't buy that now that freeloader doesn't work, but I did buy the Arkanoid paddle controller for the DS. What can I say, I'm a schlep.
Mondays with George
I think it will come as a surpise to a lot of you, but I had a relatively normal childhood even though I thought it was a bit odd at the time.
My mother got custody of my two sisters and myself when I was around five after her divorce was finalized. My mother worked her butt off for most of my childhood and as a result of that, I spent a good deal of time with my sisters watching me. Having only one parent seemed like an odd thing to me, as most of the kids I knew had both a mom and a dad around, but now I know that my mom was just one of many women raising kids all by herself.
I didn't really enjoy spending a lot of time with my sisters as they were older than me and they were, well... girls. So, I would spend a lot of time in the house playing with Legos, Star Wars toys, and listening to comedy albums. I've never really asked my mom why she had all of the comedy albums that she did, but I spent a great deal of the developmental years of my life listening to comedy albums on our vinyl player.
My mother had quite a diverse range of comedy selections, from Woody Allen to Bill Cosby to George Carlin.
The trick about listening to George Carlin albums when you're 7 or 8 years old is to not let your mother know that you're doing it. This proved to be quite a challenge as 'Class Clown' was hidden from me quite a few times, but I always managed to find it and listen to it over and over again.
By the time I was 9, I was reciting the 'seven words you can't say on television' to my friends.
Each person has their own set of people that they believe greatly influenced them. In my case George Carlin was one of those people and I never even met him.
While I didn't enjoy his later life work as much as the earlier works, I still respected him as the comedy genius that he was.
Tonight I'll sit back and listen to my CD for Class Clown and remember how big of a role George played in developing my sense of humor.
Goodbye, George.
George Carlin RIP
Sad news waking up this morning as I read that comedian George Carlin has died at 71. One of the funniest guys I've seen -- to keep it sports related, search for his Baseball vs Football bit (War Memorial Stadium...that's classic).
Riding the Pines – Episode 22
Dan's angry and Glen does everything he can to keep him upset. Here's what's covered in Episode 22 of Riding the Pines.
- NCAA Football 2009 demo
- Hot Shots Golf for the PS3 and PSP
- An incredible annoyance with today's videogame preview/reviewers
- The Brewers/Orioles series
- and.... 7 minutes on Euro 2008
Enjoy the show!
Sunday notes
As Dan said earlier, the podcast should be up later today. We recorded it late last night and there is plenty of good content there.
- It's funny that the Brewers only play the Orioles every 6 years and Dan and I haven't even been talking about. Friday night, Suppan stunk. Last night McClung continued to show that he's worthy of his starting spot. Today... Rickie Weeks is back in the lineup, so Baltimore should win. heh. Of course, it is the 4rd inning and the Orioles have hit into 3 double plays. It seems that they don't want to help themselves.
- I started playing Mass Effect today. I forgot how much I like Bioware RPG's. I'm really curious to see how the Sonic RPG turns out on the DS.
- Top Spin comes out this week. The Wii version has a lot of people interested. Honestly, I wouldn't be surprised if that version out sold the PS3 and 360 versions.
Podcast is coming
Pleased to let you know that our Podcast should be up today. Please note my sinus impaired voice. Good times!
More PS3 Hot Shots
Wow -- I just played another round of the Oceania CC. It's still a very tough course, but I got my score down to +13 for 18 holes. What a challenge..between teh wind and the water, and the hills..and the obstacles. What a blast. Would love to play this course online if anyone is interested...I think we can do that, right?
Metal Gear Solid and Game Informer
The latest Game Informer has an interesting article where they debunk great video game myths -- like GoldenEye being the greatest game ever, Rez being good, and so forth. It's quite interesting -- but I'm not sure if the whole point of the article was just to take an opposing viewpoint or if that's what they really believe.
Anyway, I want to throw my two cents in regarding Metal Gear Solid 4. Most every site and every review has given this game a 10 score. I find it incredibly boring and dumb. Whether it be the far too drawn out cutscenes, the "stealth" stuff that is done much better by any Tom Clancy game or the PC Thief series, or the terrible animations when all of a sudden Snake can't seem to shoot a gun but he does keep reaching for his weapon over and over, I'm not having a whole lot of fun with the game at all.
I'm bored. What am I missing here? Please help me out...
DS gets rid of the pain
Because hey I can't sit in front of the PC all day, I bought some games for my DS of the old school variety: Arkanoid DS and Space Invaders Extreme. The first thing that I thought was odd was that both games are published by Square. Arkanoid still as that mind numbing delay between screens but Space Invaders is quite addictive. I play more DS than PSP -- the only two games that get PSP attention are Hot Shots and MLB The Show. Go figure.
MX vs ATV
I didn't realize I had this game for the PS3. I put it in and downloaded the patch and played "Kittery Point"...which is based on Kittery, Maine, right down the road. Very cool. I still am not in love with the game, but I loved the reference.
Gaming Thoughts
If you own Hot Shots for the PS3 and are up for a challenge, spend the $5 on the Oceanic course. I believe it's called Oceanic because your ball gets LOST all the time. (Get it). Seroiusly it is a motherf@#^ing hard course. After 18 holes I was +40. There's a lot of water. And one hole actually crosses a road with cars moving on it. Now that is funny.
Anyway, this course really will put you in your place if you're feeling cocky. Pick it up.
