ESPN Article: Why Can’t Sports Video Games Get It Right?
Phenomenal article over at ESPN. Interestingly enough, some people to blame might be the video game buying public. Other times, it’s the developer still. Definitely worth a read.

Fascinating read. Maybe now that the “mainstream” media is complaining about some of the same things that the sports games have been complaining about for years there will actually be some effort made to change things. Not holding my breath, but here’s hoping…

Whoops. meant to say “sports gamers” rather than “sports games”

Here’s a scenario: I’m playing Madden on Xbox. I’m on defense. It’s 3rd and 24 on your 30 yard line. I KNOW you’re going to pass. So I call the best pass/prevent defense on the board. Since I’ve pretty much got 7 people in the secondary at this point (I even highlight and drop my linebackers back 5 yards before the play starts), I switch over to a defensive end to try and harass the QB once the ball is snapped. The ball gets snapped, I get hung up on a double team and the QB is free to make the throw… sure enough there are at least TWO wide receivers WIDE open. WHY?!?!??! It’s bull like that that makes me stick to Halo.
It makes me long for the early days of TecmoBowl: If I predict what play you’re going to call, I should be handsomely rewarded for it. Instead, when I’m playing a console football game I can’t tell you how many times my defensive coordinator genius is stymied by ridiculous AI in the secondary.
