Friday night notes
- Well, the Brewers winning streak has finally ended. Just couldn’t get anything going tonight against the Astros. Such things will happen. Cubs lost in the 9th today as well, so the two teams are still only seperated by a single game. Can’t wait for the series next week.
- For those of you that listened to the conference call for MLB Power Pros 2008, there were a few things that were conveyed in that weren’t accurate.
You can only use your Mii characters in the Exhibition mode of the game. You cannot use your Mii characters in the Success or MLB Life modes of the game.
Lastly, you can play 20 years in the MLB Life mode. The Season mode lasts for 10 years. There was some confusion as to if the MLB Life or the Season modes were 10 or 20 years. This should settle that.
Either way, the game looks very solid. Can’t wait to play it next week.
- Here’s the newest NBA Live 09 video clip. I’m curious to hear what people here think.
- And finally, the news around here is centered about how Brett Favre is planning on reporting to Green Bay for training camp on Sunday. It’s not all about you, is it Brett? You’re all about making the Packers better, aren’t you? Considering your personal website has removed all references to the fact that, when you file your paper work, that you are still a member of the Green Bay Packers, the team you are currently under contract with. I just hope they trade him as soon as possible and he can deal with the wonderful New York media as a member of the Jets, or just move on to Tampa. I wouldn’t mind watching the highlights from camp on Sunday if he does show up in Green Bay, to see the first team run out with Rodgers instead of him. That would be worth a laugh…

Except for the minor detail Favre’s filed for nothing.

The Live trailer looks just like NCAA, all offense and no defense. Of course the real NBA is all offense and no defense…at least till the playoffs start.

And the Brewers losing streak lasted a whole ONE game.

I’m 100% behind Favre on this. Ted Thompson deserves to be fired at this point.
July 28th, 2008 at 8:08 am
All your Favre hating has led to bad karma and now the Brewers won’t win another game all year. The Packers won’t, either, but their karma is so screwed up now thanks to Ted Thompson’s egomania that they might never win another game in my lifetime.

I just don’t see how this is entirely Thompson’s fault. Favre retired… then waffled, at which point the team was willing to let him come back, and then he changed his mind again.
Now, a few months later he asks for his release (something that is just flat out silly) and whines and complains to Fox News when he doesn’t get his way.
The guy just doesn’t seem to understand that he’s working with a business. He quit… and the team had to move on. This sort of thing just destroys a locker room. You’d have part of the team wanting him to play and the other portion wanting the guy (who was named the starter) to get his chance.
The bad karma is on Brett… he’s the one that brought the crappy mojo to the team when he started calling Vikings coaches on a Packer owned cell phone.

Glen said: “he’s the one that brought the crappy mojo to the team when he started calling Vikings coaches on a Packer owned cell phone.”
Now you’re showing how clueless you are on this whole subject. From THE MAN, Brett Favre himself: “I don’t have a Packers cell phone. Never have. I told Ted that he and (coach Mike) McCarthy needed to clear up this cell phone thing. I told him they needed to get in front of the media and admit that I don’t have one of their cell phones. And Ted said, ‘Well, I think somebody already squashed that.’ But that isn’t enough. They need to get up and admit it’s ridiculous and bogus.”
And regarding the latest news: Thompson said that Brett isn’t even allowed to compete for the starting job?!?!?!?! Thompson wants Favre gone no matter what. And that’s where this whole thing stinks. Glen’s the only guy I’ve heard even entertain the possibility that Rodgers actually gives the Packers a better chance to win this season, so to not even let Brett compete for the job is just proof that this is all about Thompson’s ego. Thompson was worried that this was too much Brett’s team. Teddy The Great can’t have that. No, no. Teddy wants to show everyone how great of a drafter he is, so Brett needs to go away–the best chance for the team to win a Superbowl this year be damned.
I’ll never forgive Teddy for this b.s., and all you Favre haters better stay quiet when 6 games into the season the Packers are 2 and 4 and Rodgers goes down with an injury. I don’t want to hear a PEEP out of Glen at that point.

See, Brett’s a real unifier… he’s got Packer fans fighting amongst each other.
I guess we’ll just have to disagree on this. It isn’t Brett’s team. It’s the shareholders team. It’s the executive board who chooses who runs the team, and Brett Favre isn’t the GM, no matter how much he would like to be.
I don’t know if Aaron gives them a better chance to win now and honestly, I really don’t care… Brett is acting like he is bigger than the organization and the game and I don’t think any player is.
Each year, fans get pissed because players try to dictate their terms to an organization (Remember Javon Walker?) but because it’s Brett we’re supposed to look the other way? Not a chance.
I’ll watch the Packers play no matter what. If they’re 2-4, so what? I don’t know of any crystal ball that will tell me that they’re not 2-4 with Brett as the QB. He had a good year last year… but there is no guarantee that because he’s still having fun throwing to high school kids, that he’ll have the same year this year.
July 28th, 2008 at 10:21 am
That’s the other thing: I don’t see where Brett’s acting like he is bigger than the organization. There have been Packers of old who have unretired 2 days before the season started (this is back in the Lombardi days). If Thompson didn’t think Brett would have the urge to play again after as long as he’s been playing, then Teddy is too stupid and naive to be a GM. Reggie White got his release when he asked for it. Glen is acting like Brett gave up any chance to get any respect from the Packers organization the second he gave his tearful farewell address earlier this year. And now that Brett is asking for a semblance of respect from the team for whom Brett fought so hard, people like Glen are turning their backs on him and calling him a diva.
Even Sunday’s headlines were complete crap. The deal Sunday was that Brett was going to go to Packers camp, Ted Thompson called Brett and basically begged him not to show up, Brett nicely agreed, and the headline on Espn.com was basically “Brett Changes His Mind Yet Again”.
I don’t think the media has done Brett any favors on this. Their goal is to continue to give the impression of controversy.
The bottom line is that if you separate your own feelings from the subject and just look at it from a purely football perspective, what does it hurt to have Brett in camp competing for the starting job? What does it hurt to have Brett on the sidelines as a backup? Who wouldn’t want Brett on the sideline as a backup (at the very least) for Rodgers’ inevitable injuries this season? The answer is clear and it all points to one thing: Ted Thompson’s ego can’t handle a legend like Brett on the Packers roster any more. Ted Thompson’s ego needs to have HIS draft pick start at QB so he can show everyone how smart he is.
I will not have my Packers brought down be a retarded egomaniac. This is why I stand up for Brett Favre. This is why we as Americans should stand up against George W. Bush.
Wait, that last one just slipped out.

I think it is pretty simple, from the Packers point of view: Rogers has two years left on his contract, counting this one. If they don’t play him - especially since they think he’s good - he walks at the end of his contract. Favre has at most two years left in him, so the Packers would be without a future franchise quarterback. They don’t “owe” Brett anything - they pay him millions of dollars to be on the team in a capacity of their choosing. In the past, that was as a starter; if they don’t want him in that role, so be it. He says he doesn’t want to be a backup. If that is so, than have a happy retirement, or go where they trade you. It sucks that it has come to this, for both Favre and the Packers, but Favre doesn’t have a position to bargain from besides ruining his own image in the media. Once a prima donna, always a prima donna.
