Thursday Musings
I'm trying Windows Live Writer with Word Press...fingers crossed...
- I bought MLB Stickball today. Nice quick games...cute idea. Not bad.
- 2K today announced NBA 2K9 for the PC. I can't believe it either. It's going to be available on 10/21, which is even more amazing. Come on release your baseball game for the PC!!
Work is taking up a lot of my time right now. You may have heard a little something about the financial services industry having some issues...while where I work does not have financial issues you can imagine what this crisis is doing to Joe Six Pack (TM Sarah Palin).
I'm pretty sleepy now so I'm going to bed. I'll try to post more. Really.
Monday night notes
Remember me? Yeah, I used to write on the blog... just kidding.
- I have to say that the Brewers game on Saturday was absolutely amazing. The crowd was into the game and was loud from start to finish. I've only heard a crowd that loud once before (a Wisconsin hockey game versus North Dakota in 2004,) but it was by far the most amazing baseball crowd that I've ever seen.
It was disappointing that the Brewers lost yesterday, but it was not unexpected. The team hadn't hit with runners in scoring position since the month of August. The pitching was pretty good for the last week, but when your team isn't hitting, you're not going to win many games.
Seeing CC get one more start as a Brewer would have been great, but I think they will be a radically different team next year, and it'll be fun to support them again then.
- Boy, Dan and I neglect mentioning politics for a week and everything goes crazy. Yesterday and today were pretty interesting from that perspective. I'm just going to take a deep breath and see if the "Gotcha" media will do anything with the comments from Mrs. Palin.
- I didn't get a chance to comment on the NBA2K9 press conference last week, but here's a link for those of you that are interested to hear more about the game.
On a side note, I can't believe that EA spent all that time hyping the DNA feature for Live 09, and then charges you $19.99 for it. That's just crazy in my book.
- Picked up Skate for the PS3 today at Target for $9.99. I'm finding quite a few of last year's sports titles really interesting right about now for some reason.
- 2 weeks to Guitar Hero: World Tour. Is it sad that I'm more excited about the drums than the song list? Well, that and I'll get another wireless guitar to have for concerts. I certainly hope that the drums are quiet enough to play at home though. I'm always worried about waking up my kids with the Rock Band drums.
Monday Thoughts
1. The Patriots didn't do half bad yesterday, albeit against a 49ers team -- but keep in mind, the Pats have always had issues on West Coast trips.
2. My condolences to Glen, but it wasn't unexpected. Dodgers and Phillies...that's a good match up. Sox lost...still a Tampa Bay vs Boston potential series? That would be um, interesting.
3. Didn't get a lot of game time in over the weekend as it's still soccer season. Nothing more enjoyable than taking your son to practice for 3 hours over a week and then seeing him get a whole 15 minutes of gametime over two games. Not that I'm bitter. The amazing thing is that this is a coach who likes to win and yet the team isn't great and my son in the short period of time has had 1 goal and 2 goal scoring opportunities -- yes, I'm the overbearing father -- but seriously -- if you're 2-5-1 wouldn't it be obvious that the current scheme isn't working? And what's with the 4-1-0 formation? WTF!
4. De Blob for Wii is an amazingly fun game. Don't let the relatively low Metacritic scores fool you.
5. Just to shut up my kids and so I could keep mine for review purposes, I bought Wii #2 for the upstairs over the weekend. I have never seen the kids and my wife so excited before. I mean she doesn't play video games but there she is doing yoga on Wii fit. Obviously Nintendo touched a nerve -- now if they could only fix the download/memory card issue, that would be great.
6. I've been meaning to play more video football and just haven't had the time. I upgraded to Nero 9 but the @#$%ing thing won't install on my PC. I went so far as to backup and reinstall my PC's OS, but I'm still having problems. I send a screen shot to Nero support and they reply back, saying , please send a screenshot. Gah! I'm not sure what else to do.
7. Time for me to go to work.
Memos to self…
...if your work allows you to go out and watch a baseball game during work... don't agree to let yourself be filmed for local news.
Also, make sure they spell your name right.
Oh, and hope that your customers don't see the story...which at least 3 did. Ugh.
In other news…
1. The NBA 09 DNA program is going to cost $19.99 for the year. Ouch. $80 for a basketball game...curious to how it will work but $80 curious? I'm not sure...what do you think?
2. Speaking of EA, the first new course for Tiger 09 is available on the PS3...too bad there isn't downloadable content on the Wii..
3. Speaking of Wii...the Nintendo press conference makes it sound like you can download games to a memory card. Um, you can do that now, you just can't play them. I still don't think they've fixed this problem...and if you've ever tried to transfer a game to a memory card from the Wii memory...well let's just say it takes a very long time. Too bad you can't transfer wirelessly to some sort of game station like the DS.
4. Speaking of the DS, how about that DSi. Sounds interesting but with no game boy slot, how will we play guitar hero?
5. Speaking of shitty things, sorry about the Brewers, Glen, but enjoy game 3.
6. The Wii/DS stuff was pretty interesting though...
Quick Thursday playoff note
- I'll tell you one thing. You get 3 hits in a game, you don't deserve to win.
Corey Hart is just embarassing himself at this point. He has absolutely no business taking an at-bat right now, but they have no one else to take Right Field at this point, with Kapler injured.
It's also too bad that CC had his worst game tonight, when the Brewers just keep on hacking at ball 4... over... and over again.
I'm still very excited about getting to see game 3 in person though, even if it might be the last game of the year.
I’d like to talk about NBA2K9, but first.
Let me talk about energy because it's important.
Way to hit those bullet points, Sarah! Feel free to talk about something besides energy. OMG, this is just too funny.
Wednesday afternoon notes
- Bummer that the Brewers lost game one. I thought that they actually played a pretty good game, but 2 errors (the official scorer should have given Cameron one for having a ball go into his glove and out... after taking a bad angle at a flyball to the outfield) ended up costing them 3 runs. They put up a good fight in the 9th, but when you have Corey Hart batting with 2 outs, you can pretty much guarantee that it's going to be 3 outs shortly.
Things look good with CC going to the mound tomorrow though. If they come back to Milwaukee with a split, that's a winning scenario.
- Don't know if any of you saw this, but there is a lawsuit going on between former NFL players and the NFLPA due to the contract that was negotiated with EA. The gist of the lawsuit is that someone worked a deal EA and the NFLPA that was well below what Take Two was willing to pay them... that ending up leading to the death of the All Pro Football series, despite what Take Two would was willing to pay to the retired players. I couldn't believe how irritated that I was with this. I don't know what will come of the legal wranglings, but I do hope that Take Two will get another crack at an agreement with the retired NFL players.
- I have a ton of demos to look at on my PS3 and 360, as well as more time with Pure. Hopefully I'll get a shot at them tomorrow.
