Closing Time..on XM

Right now on Lucy, they are playing "Closing Time" it's a sad chapter. But wait, there won't be any difference with the merger, except XM is becoming Sirius, but other than that, hey, no diff.

Bring Back Special X and I"ll be happy....

Movie Update

Oh, Universal announced the original Friday Night Lights will be released on BD in January and Band of Brothers came out on BD today. Awesome series if you haven't seen it.

I still have Generation Kill on my TiVo HD but I haven't watched any of the series yet. Is it any good?

So Long Level Up on MAXIM Radio

According to Major Nelson's Twitter, Maxim Radio will be axed on the SIRIUS side so no more Level Up. Too bad as it was a great show with Major on it.

The XM new channel lineup has been released and if you like Sirius, you'll love XM. Who needs a best of Sirius when Fred and Ethel have been replaced with First Wave and Lithium....

Ironically I think XM looks like a much better service when you get the best of Sirius vs Sirius with the best of XM....

Extended Weekend Notes

When Veterans Day is on a Tuesday there's only one thing you can do aside from honoring those who served -- take Monday off.

So, tomorrow is my Monday and my 4 days of what I thought would be nonstop gaming are coming to an end. Mind you I did get to play some games, but there's never enough time to play them all.

I played the new Scene It online, and that is a lot of fun. I played Monopoly for the Wii and I think I'd have enjoyed buying $50 worth of food at McDonald's and using all their Monopoly pieces more than that game.

I did play some Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty 5. I am really liking Call of Duty...still meh about Gears.

I still need to play Saint's Row 2 and Resistance 2...I was going to play Socom but the patch took up my time....

So there you go...

MLB 2K9 has a cover athlete

New York, NY – November 11, 20082K Sports, the sports publishing label of Take-Two Interactive Software, Inc. (NASDAQ: TTWO), announced today that National League Cy Young Award winner, Tim Lincecum of the San Francisco Giants, will be featured as the cover athlete and spokesman for next year's highly anticipated baseball video game, Major League Baseball® 2K9.  Lincecum led Major League Baseball with 265 strikeouts during the 2008 season and set a new team record in the process.  He has quickly become a fan favorite and established himself as one of the most thrilling young pitchers to watch in baseball today.

So there you go...now that the important part is out of the way, let's fix the game :) .

One last Monday note

- Holy poop is DIRT challenging with a steering wheel.  Man, that game was just kicking my ass all over the place.  Force feedback makes a huge difference as well.

That is going to take some getting used to.

Glen’s Monday gaming notes

- Thank you very much Target for your clearance deals.  Thanks to them, I purchased a 120GB hard drive for my 360 (for what reason, I don't know... I'm currently using 6GB of my 20GB model) and a Wireless Wheel for the 360.  Getting both for 50% off seemed like a pretty darn good deal to me.

- Also, I got my copy of Resistance 2 in the mail today.  I was really underwhelmed by the beta test for the game, but I think that was primarily due to the fact that the Killzone 2 beta is just so terrific.  We'll see.

- In sports gaming related news, the NFLPA was ordered to pay it's 2100 retired members $28.1 million.  This is all part in parcel to how the NFLPA negotiated it's deal with the Hall of Fame that allowed them to effectively kill the 2K football franchise.  It's unfortunate that EA doesn't take some of the blame for this, as how the NFLPA stated the following, "EA owes me a huge favor because of that threat was enough to persuade Take Two to back off its plans, leaving EA as the only professional football videogame manufacturer out there."

It's a sad story as it took advantage of the images of the former players in order to save a bit of money.  Dreadful.

- In other football news, I've really been in a bit of a sports funk of late.  The Badgers are under performing, and the Packers are getting beaten up.

At least the Wisconsin hockey team has won three in a row.

- Oh, and as far as the firmware for the HD-DVD players... supposedly it fixes an issue where your player is paused for 3 hours.  So, I think you're safe Dan.  heh.

HDDVD 4.0 Update

In the WTF section, I received an update disc from Toshiba for a firmware 4.0 update for my HD-DVD player. Which is in my closet. Apparently this update allows it to play blu-ray.

Just kidding! I have no idea what it does. Made you look though...

The Gaming Addiction Continues

Well, I picked up Smackdown vs Raw 2009 yesterday and I'm enjoying it. Some people say it's a lot like last years, but I didn't buy it so I don't know. I didn't play it as I recall.

Tonight I Picked up Call of Duty W@W...good thing to preorder at GameStop :) .

I also got my free Banjo-Kazooie code for that game.

Oh yeah and PES 2009 is out tomorrow. Just another ho-hum gaming week.

Friday night notes

What a week.  Tons of work and not much time for gaming or sports...

- I received my MIDI/USB cable from Red Octane today and was able to adjust my drums exactly as I want them.  I was pretty surprised how often I would see yellow hits when I was hitting the red drum... so if people are having any oddities when playing, get the cable.  It's a nice free bonus to fix the kit.

- Can't remember if I commented on the Brewers offer to Sabathia... but I'm impressed that they made an effort like that.  It still won't get him to come back, but it's good to see that they can try to participate sometimes.  Personally, I think that 20 million a year would be better spent on multiple components, but I'm not Melvin.

- Deepdiscount.com is doing their annual 25% off sale for the next week or so.  I'm pretty tempted to pick up Ironman and Hellboy 2 on Blu-Ray with that sale.

- What in the hell is the deal with the shirts that they sell on CNN?  You can get a t-shirt with any of the headlines that they've run on the website?  Who buys that crap?

In other news, you're more than welcome to buy one of our headline t-shirts.  'CBS = Asshats' is one of our biggest sellers from December of '07.

Gimme Golf Moves into Open Beta

From the press release...

"The independent gaming company, Skill Technology, recently announced that their first online game, Gimme Golf (gimmegolf.com) is now in open beta. This means anyone can log in and start playing the game for free, today.

After a “closed-beta” launch that attracted more than 1,000 players, the Skill Tech team introduced Gimme Golf to the world earlier this month. After minimal registration (entering a “nickname”, e-mail address and password), users are sent into a web application, where they’ll have the choice of playing a single-player or multi-player game, by creating a virtual “lobby” and inviting 1-3 more players to join.

While the initial download of the game may take up to 30 minutes, depending on your connection, you’re rewarded with the complete game: three courses of varying difficulty and four avatars with distinct personalities.

Initially, it takes around 45 minutes to complete 18 holes, though more experienced players can usually complete a game in 20 minutes. Your game is automatically saved when you play, allowing you to log out, and back in again whenever you want to complete your game.

You can check out the game at gimmegolf.com, or learn more about the Skill Technology team at skilltechnology.com."

Great Minds..

I hadn't read Glen's post when I posted. That is too funny.

Moving on to sports related things, I submitted my FIFA 09 (360) review earlier this week. While you'll have to wait for the full review, suffice it to say I enjoyed my time with it.

Also, I'm not sure if I posted this or not, but Blitz The League 2 is now $39.99...for more information you can check out my review by clicking here.

Finally, PS3 owners, don't forget about all the new add ons for High Velocity Bowling..one of the Wii bowling clones that's actually pretty good (OTOH, the Bowling game in Home...blech)..I love the Halloween bowling ball.

Now I need to get into playing some NHL for the PS3...I forgot I still was renting it and haven't played it at all...the release calendar for this month is so insane...they are piling up!

One more politics thing

Where was that guy conceding all election season? Man, if he had more speeches like that, it may have been a much different outcome!
