MLB2K9 Demo? Uhh…
Major Nelson says the MLB2K9 demo is up, however, when I go to download it I get a “This feature is temporarily unavailable” message. The game box is also generic. Looks like something is borked…

I haven’t tried to download it yet, but I had a similar issue with an episode of BSG I was tryying to download from XBL. I tried downloading it right after it went up, and i kept getting an error.
Maybe it is tied to how many people are trying to download it at the same time. I know there were folks waiting up for it over at OS, but I can’t imagine that this demo is in such high demand.

Someone has it, as there is a 10 page “Impressions” thread already at OS.

I just queued up the download of the demo.
Go ahead and post your impressions when you get a chance to try it out.

Some worrisome stuff. Such as… it’s still Hack-a-Way. I dare you to draw a walk, for one. I threw 27 curves and managed to retire 9 hitters in a row in one outing. The computer seldom swings at pitches out of the strike zone. Everyone is a Gold Glover. Everyone can hit, including Kazmir.

I got a different feel from the demo. Not only did I get the CPU to swing at balls, it also took several strikes. I do think there may be an issue with the CPU not being able to hit curves.
Batting was easy, but it also felt like it was on a pretty easy setting. I also plan to change the batting (and go back to last year’s three step pitching) interface. I’d really like to try the cursor batting, as well as turn on the strike zone to begin with.
I can agree that the game did not play exactly how I would like, but I am really comfortable that the sliders and options are available to get the game where I will want it. Of course, the proff will be in the pudding on release day,
I think folks that want to getaq few licks on @k will find plenty to bitch and moan about. But I think plenty of us that took the time to really dug into last year’s game are going to find a lot ot really like about the directing VC has taken the game.
All I was expecting out of the demo was proof that VC was putting out a solid game. Gameplay will be better judged once we get the final version with difficulty levels, options, and sliders.
But the game looks good, and ran without a hitch. The announcers were spot on. I also had an error in my game, and did not feel like everyone was a Gold Glover.
Compared to the lackluster demos we are accustomed to getting for all sports titles, there is nothing here that makes me worried abut the final version.
