This just in…
Jeff Suppan sucks.
I'm sure that every team has a pitcher that has no business being on their roster, but how many can afford a $12.5 million starting pitcher that can't throw strikes....
Terrible pitcher. Absolutely terrible pitcher.

He’s not terrible, but he is a back of the rotation innings-eater (I use the term in a negative sense). He’s overpaid because he overperformed in St. Louis and signed a deal in a year when free agent pitching was at a premium. Also, the Brewers were desperate for veteran pitching when they signed him (and they still are).
I’ve never liked him, even when he was doing well. His K/BB ratio and WHIP have always been bad, and he put up ERAs around 5 in his prime. He must be great in the clubhouse, though!

Exhibit A – Carlos Silva/Seattle Mariners
Replacement level starting pitcher signed for 4 years and $48 million
2008 4-16 with a 6.46 ERA. Admittedly his FIP was 4.63 which was basically his career average. But given that this is his career average we probably didn’t need to pay him $48 million for 4 years.
