One more thing
This computer failure made me very, very happy I signed up for Carbonite. I kept hearing about it on Howard Stern and signed up for two years. The thing works in the background and thankfully my 76GB of music and photos were backed up. I left my computer on all day and most of my files have been restored.
Well worth the money, in my opinion…

Whenever I’ve had a hard drive fail, I’ve been able to recover the data by buying an identical model and swapping the PCBs, which is an astonishingly simple procedure for anyone armed with a screwdriver. In other words, the failure has always been electronic, never mechanical.
