Prince Fielder, Cover athlete for The Bigs 2
Can you think of another player that would fill the bill, literally, better than Prince?
Ok, other than CC.

My One Day of Gloating
Well, this is the one day I can gloat – Teixiera sucked, CC sucked, the Yankees couldn’t run the bases to save their lives and even the Orioles #9 hitter homered to complete a 10-5 bombing of the Loser Yankees.
Yes, I know it is one game. Yes I know the Yankees will win the season series 11-1. However I will enjoy tonight and tomorrow like it’s a World Series.
Suck it, Yankees. I even enjoyed the Meier-esque Orioles HR.
Well, I can blog post from the DSi
Not that I ever will again, but now I know it's possible in an absolute pinch.
Wow are the screens bright on this as compared to the DS Phat.
I'll do some more comparing of the system later tonight after I get the girls to bed.
Monday notes (Weak-willed edition)
- So, I had $70 in store credit and reward certificates at Best Buy and I picked up a DSi. I don't believe that hardware counts against my self-imposed game purchase ban... I think. I'll post some impressions later tonight.
- Congratulations to Jermaine Ong, who has already won the Bracket Challenge. Not a single person picked Michigan State, so he's already locked up the win. I finished way, way, way back in the pack.
Jermaine, send me an email and we'll work out a prize for you. Thanks to all for entering.
- As far as the basketball games this weekend, I watched almost all of the Michigan State/UConn game and got so angry at the coverage that I didn't even watch the UNC/Villanova game. If I hear them say one more time how great it is that Michigan State is this far, I'll go insane.
Apparently, if your local basketball team does well, it will fix a failing auto industry and put millions of people back to work.
If you'd listen to the coverage, you'd swear that everything that's wrong with a Michigan's residents life would be fixed if Michigan State keeps winning. It made me turn off the TV, I was that annoyed. I'm happy that Big Ten team is doing that well in the tournament, but it doesn't do anything to help those people. The economy still sucks and they won't have increased home values or better jobs tomorrow. It's just a basketball game.
- More later.
The DSi
If you followed my Twitter you’ll know that last night, because I’m married, 37 and the kids are all in bed and what else am I going to do, I went to my local GameStop for the midnight launch of the DSi.
I went in to purchase two DSis…one for me and one for my son. My daughter wanted to keep her DS, which is fine with me, so I can still use my paddle controller. I did return my Guitar Hero games though because I didn’t see any joy in keeping them.
I got there at 10:50 and although there was a sign that said “the line starts here at 10” I was the only person waiting, much to the shock of the GameStop employees – probably because they couldn’t believe anyone was waiting.
They opened the doors at 11 and I traded in my two old DS Lites, one old DS and a bunch of games since it was 40% bonus time. After the trade ins were done, I paid a grand total of zero for the two DSI’s and had $60 credit on my edge card. Let me say the 40% bonus is the best trade in promo ever.
Anyway, as we got closer to midnight, people started coming in – in droves. Most had already preordered – there were some people who wanted to buy as a walk in – but they were sold out of blue. I didn’t think blue was a popular color, but apparently it is.
So by 12:10 I was on my way home. The DSi is very Wii-like with the channels and music. Registering a DSi nets you 160 coins in Club Nintendo. Also you’ll get 1,000 DS Points to spend on each DSi you get, which is nice.
The camera thing is very cool; I like the new feel of the buttons. That being said the unit is a little wider/bigger than the DS Lite and honestly I’m still on the fence if it’s worth the upgrade at this point. The kids love the cameras. I’m sure new games will be released making it much more worthwhile. The Opera browser is a turd and not useful – it’s too slow.
So there you have it.
Baseball Mogul Predictions
Just heard from Clay D that using the latest and greatest Baseball Mogul sim engine, they have already predicted this year …and as an Orioles fan, the only solace I can take is that they don’t finish 5th in the AL East…it’s a shame when you get excited that your team may ‘only’ finish 10 games under .500.
Anyway, it’s a fun read, check it out here.
Thursday night notes
- What a week.... I've gotten about 14 hours of sleep in the last 4 nights and have at least 2 hours of work yet to do tonight. Oh, and my daughters are both sick again... with one of them throwing up all over me on Tuesday night. Festive.
- The biggest relief of my year came today when I finally confirmed the vacation that my wife and I are taking. She doesn't know where we're going, so it's been fun to try and plant little hints here and there. Of course, she reads the blog from time to time (why I don't know) so I can't mention the destination here either.
I'll be gone from the 17th of April until the 25th. The hotel has WiFi access, so I'll probably get a post or two in while I'm there. What can I say? I love the blog.
- In gaming, I rented Henry Hatsworth for the DS and it's a fun little platformer. I love the fact that the DS has the power to play N64 level games and most of the things on there are SNES quality. I guess there is just plenty of juice left in that style of gameplay.
- I f'n hate malware. I've spent the better part of this week trying to get it removed off of customer PC's and I'm finally getting to the point now that we should just tell people that we'll backup their data (and clean those files,) format and reload their OS. Most of them are just plain awful now and infect so many files that it's just not worth the effort to try and fix it.
- Well, I'll be damned, the baseball season starts in a few days. It's amazing how excited people are here about the Brewers. Go figure, get into the playoffs once in the last 26 years and your fan base really wants to see what you can do for an encore.
- Listening to ESPN tonight when they said that Jay Cutler is the 22nd QB for the Bears since 1990. That's just plain sad... funny... but sad.
- Gametap's new client? I don't care for it. It's nice to have it Browser based, but when you only support IE and, the non-beta, Firefox client... it's kind of annoying.
- Ok, time to get to work.
Wednesday Thoughts
I have pretty much recovered from my surgery. Yay! It was another sinus issue – no enlargment going on here.
Anyhoo, there was some good news, I did get my Kindle 2. So far I like it.
On the other hand, can someone tell my why Guitar Hero Metallica gets an 8.0 while Rock Band AC/DC gets a lower score , even though you can actually play those songs from AC/DC in regular Rock Band while GH does not let you play the songs in World Tour?
In case you missed it, PES 2009 has a new file update with the new England Kits…very cool.
I Gamefly’d NASCAR Kart racing and this is an underappreciated game. Again, I don’t see how Mario Kart gets great reviews and this one doesn’t. I like how they did drafting and used real speedways like Talladega along with different courses. I think it’s pretty fun, but that’s just me.
