Tuesday notes

- Absolutely terrific hockey last night.  The Pittsburgh/Washington series is a joy to watch.  Great back and forth action, and a 3rd overtime game in the first 6.  I can't wait for game 7.

The Vancouver/Chicago series finished up last night with a 7-5 Chicago win.  I can't remember the last time I saw that many goals scored in a conference semi-final.  Chicago just wouldn't quit in that game.  I always pull for the Canadian teams in the playoffs, so I was disappointed to see the Canucks lose, but I was pretty happy when Adam Burish (former Badger) got his first goal of the series.

Good hockey all around.

- So, the Logitech Harmony adapter for the PS3 has been released at a price of $60.  Here's the first review that I've seen for it.

I have to admit that I'm tempted by this... just so I don't have to have my PS3 controllers sitting around for my daughters to mess with, but the $60 price tag is quite a bit higher than I would like to pay for it.  Grrr.

- So, that DSi Ware game from yesterday, Real Soccer, is priced at $9.99 at Gamestop as well.  So, for those of you without a DSi, that's a good price for it either way.

  1. I would like to comment about hockey:

When it comes to Brett Favre, Ted Thompson “done him wrong”. It was a weasel move to ask Brett to make his Packers retirement decision at a time in the off-season when not only did the decision not matter all that much to the Packers (because it’s not like they were looking at a QB in the draft, nor was the draft immediately imminent) but Brett’s motivation was at its yearly low. Ted knew this (about Brett’s motivation), which is why he forced Brett’s hand. Brett retired, Thompson laughed sinisterly to himself, Brett changed his mind shortly thereafter (Brett’s prerogative), and Thompson was a weasel and told Brett the ship has already left port without him. No, Brett is not bigger than the team, but he deserved more honesty than Ted gave him. Ted should have just said, sure you can unretire but we’re going to have an open competition at QB. Instead he took the weasel approach and acted like his hands were tied.

The Packers’ bad season last year was karma, and if it takes one more season of losing to get Ted fired, then so be it. I’m a Packers fan first and foremost, but with a bad seed running the Packers, I’m going to root against the Packers for another season in the interests of getting rid of that bad seed. That’s why it will work out perfectly that Brett is going to be wearing one of my most hated uniforms in all of sports this season: I can root for the Vikings and Favre to show Ted Thompson what a tool he is. Brett can get another ring, Ted can get fired, and I can go back to being an untainted Packers fan again.

One last thing: Has Brett called any press conferences this season? Has Brett made a single statement to the media this season? No. So those of you who are whining, “I’m soooooooo sick of Brett Favre… he’s such a prima donna… he just wants all this attention… etc.”, remember that it’s the media driving this story and not Brett. They drove the story last year, too.

  2. - Agree about Favre; it’s all media driven. One year the media got all worked up saying he had called a press conference to announce his retirement, then got all bent out of shape when he said nothing about retirement. Turns out it was the same press conference he had called every year for 10+ years to promote his charitable foundation, which the media knew full well, but just chose to ignore in favor of speculation.

    - What the heck is Ted Thompson doing with the defense? He drafts guys in the first round for a 4-3 then switches defensive coordinators (the 5th in 8 years) to a 3-4 guy so now they have to use a 1st, 2nd and two 3rds to draft the same positions again. First round pick Nick Barnett, starter at MLB since his first week in the NFL : guess he’s never coming back from that injury because he’s too small for an ILB in a 3-4. Best defensive player the last two years, Aaron Kampman: havent played OLB in 10 years, sorry buddy, you’re an OLB now. Franchise tagged Corey Williams, a DT who can play DE in a 3-4; too expensive and excess to needs in a 4-3, lets trade him away. Whoops! DT Justin Harrell, first round pick two years ago, career starts never going to increase past 2. AJ Hawk, outside linebacker, the Packer’s highest draft pick since (gulp) Tony Manadarich; you’re an ILB now, just try to forget how the team was 26th against the run when you filled in at that position last year.

    - $60, what a ripoff when it probably costs $10 to make. But then it is my wife’s birthday and she hates using a controller with buttons that make no sense to her …………..
