WBCN
The Boston Globe today announced that as of mid – August, WBCN will be no more. WBCN broke a little known band named U2. WBCN was the Rock of Boston.
CBS Radio are asshats and this is yet another reason why Satellite Radio is so much better (although be careful, they are also getting suits more and more).
This is just unbelievable. Boston isn’t a place where you just change call signs and formats. WRKO AM didn’t change their calls when they went talk.
What a sad day, but I’m sure we’ll move on.
Michigan Economist says Madden Monopoly cost gamers $926,000,000
So says this Gamepolitics article.
I’m not as concerned about the money as I am concerned that it cost us gamers a good football game.
Bouncy Bill Abner, uh, just slightly contradicts Team X Box’s review of NCAA 10.
Guess I can wait a day and it is in fact a turd. Who would have thought TeamXbox would suck the corporate teet of EA? Oh, me, that’s right.
Amazon Release Date Delivery = FAIL
Because I had $12 left over in Amazon Gift Certificates, and because I had the 10% ECA coupon, NCAA would cost me only $38 from Amazon, and release date delivery sealed the deal.
However no packages here at home. I track my package:

BILLING INFORMATION RECEIVED
For the record, Louisville KY is nowhere near New Hampshire. So I got screwed. Guess who will NOT be using release day delivery anymore from Amazon.com. The package was left in a UPS facility, WTF?

Nice work Nintendo, now give me my download code!
Prince Fielder… Home Run Derby champ
It's probably the only title the Brewers will win this year, so fans here will take what we can get.
Congrats to the Prince.
Oh Good, Another Name Change
Shawmut Center
Fleet Center
TD BankNorth Garden
TD Garden
Make up your damn mind already. This week, the TD BankNorth Garden becomes the TD Garden. Why? I have no idea.
Pick a name and stick with it. TD Garden will be the official name until 2025. Unless it is changed again.
Thanks Gamefly
Well, NCAA shipped today. Now it's just a matter of seeing how quickly they get the game to me.
I'll be a few days behind most of you, but with luck I'll have some time to play it on Wednesday or Thursday night.
Monday notes
- Back from the weekend of camping and we all survived. A bit of sunburn, but that is quite normal. My oldest daughter handled the trip quite well, but the 2 year old struggled a bit with the concept of being stuck in the tent... so she was constantly trying to cuddle up with Mom and Dad... which just meant that we didn't sleep all that much. Oh, well. Still had a good time 'roughing it.'
- As Dan mentioned, Pro Yakyuu Spirits 6 ships out this week. From what I'm seeing it'll ship on Friday from NCSX, the official import shop of the blog... so, I'll be posting all of my impressions... when I get back from my next weekend trip to see the in-laws.
- Due to the camping and time to relax, I finished two of the Harlan Coben books that I took up for the weekend. The first one I read, "The Woods" was pretty suspensful throughout, with some pretty good plot twists, but petered out a bit at the end. The next one, "Stay Quiet" was much better. I really enjoyed how I had to keep guessing as to who was involved with which character and why. I haven't read a great suspense novel like that in a long time. I'd highly recommend both.
- According to Gamefly, NCAA is going to ship today. As Dan says... the first week with NCAA is always a love fest and then within a few days you start to hear things like, "The defensive line is all falling down at the same time" or "Uh-oh... I'm seeing a pursuit angle issue."
I have high hopes that the game could turn out well and surprise us... but it's really hard to be optimistic at this point.
- Speaking of lack of optimism, the Brewers... ugh. This team just can't seem to find any sort of consistency. No more than 2 players can seem to hit at the same time... and the bench is just stretched thin. That and the pitching staff can't seem to get 2 quality starts from any pitcher back-to-back.
Even with all that, only 2 1/2 games out at the break. Maybe they'll make a deal... but I just don't want to see them lose the farm to make one run.
NCAA Caveat; Other Games this week
I saw the comment about the awesome reviews of NCAA. It could be the best C FB game ever…but just a reminder: the first week of the game’s release is always the second coming…then someone finds a flaw, then there are 23 of them, then the game sux.
Let’s just remember to give the game a more comprehensive play through. I really hope it is as good as we’re hearing.
In other news, PYS 6 (Pro Yakuu Spirits) releases for the PS3 this week. Japanese baseball at it’s finest. Not sure if I am going to grab it or not this year, I enjoy the Show so much that it seems pointless.
NCAA preorders down?
Wow, I was rather shocked to see that the # of GameStop midnight openings has dwindled down quite a bit – for example, in my state of NH there are exactly zero stores opening at midnight.
The girl who keeps calling me, “Hi this is Ashley from GameStop, I’m on Demerol” let me know that the game will be available for pick up on “Tuesday morning” … I know you’re saying that means 12:01 but that’s actually when they open…because according to the list of stores, there are none.
Even a Best Buy in Nashua is open at midnight. WTF.
I just wonder if the buzz has been poor and not as many are buying the game…are you buying it?
Friday notes
- Quite the week. Sick kids, and busy at work. Sigh....
- OOTP X is on sale for $10 off for until July 15th. So, $29.99 if you want to catch up on some baseball simming before the All Star break.
- Still in a hold pattern for my copy of the Bigs 2. Such is life sometimes.
- Started reading a book last night by Harlen Coben called, The Woods. Quite good. My wife and best friend had been raving about him as a writer for the last few weeks and I finally gave it a look. Finished half of the book in one sitting. The primary character is very snarky and sarcastic... hence I dug him quite a bit. Well worth a look if you're interested in a good mystery novel.
- Not sure what to think about NCAA coming out next week. I have a slot open in my Gamefly queue so that I don't have to worry about picking it up on a whim... but everyone seems quite down on the title based on the demo. Looks like people have been picking up the game, via what I'm seeing at Operation Sports forums, so they'll be a bit of reading to do before trying the game out.
- I'm heading out of town camping with the family this weekend. It's my 12th anniversary on Sunday and I can't complain about a family weekend as a way to celebrate it. Talk to you all when I get back.
Battlefield 1943
So I just paid $15.00 for Battlefield 1943 because I enjoyed the trial version of the game.
Um, after I bought the game, I had zero games I could play. Kudos to EA for running a ticker saying that they are aware of the problem, but I mean COME ON.
We didn’t expect the number of gamers to play the game? Yeah, I mean why would anyone play a franchise title for download set in the World War 2 era. I mean Call of Duty gets very little play online on Major Nelsons top 10 Live titles. I mean really.
Oh well, at least they are fixing it…
The Bigs 2
My copy arrived today from Amazon. I’m really enjoying this game. It takes the best things from Midway’s SlugFest plus improves the original Bigs game and so far is a lot of fun. Home Run Pinball is always a blast.
Hell, even the rosters on this game are better than MLB 2K9. This is probably your next purchase.
For the record, and I mean this is pretty obvious but I need to reiterate that sim gamers need not apply – this is an arcade action baseball game. Unless you like turbos, injuries from launched balls and so forth, this is not the game for you.
Amazon Kindle 2 now $299
For those geeks out there, Amazon has reduced the price of the Kindle 2 from $359 to $299. Wow, a $60 reduction in only 4 months. Guess I should have waited.
Personally I am a*HUGE* fan of the Kindle 2. I love the wireless newspaper delivery, especially now that the Economist is on there.
MLB 2K9 $20 at GameStop (360)
I think the headline says it all , but the long version is that MLB 2K9 for the Xbox 360 is only $20 at GameStop. For that price, pick it up.
