Most overrated sports video game personalities

Riding the Pines podcast guest, Patrick Hruby, has written a new article at ESPN.com where he discusses the most overrated players in sports gaming history.  The list covers players from Dell Curry in NBA Jam, to my own personal submission, Bob Nelson in Tecmo Super Bowl.

Here's a link to the article.  It's an entertaining read on a Friday afternoon.

  1. The only thing I don’t understand (and maybe I need to go back and play my copy of Tecmo Super Bowl some more) is that the nose tackle dive at the QB play was something every nose tackle could do. It was a super cheap play, no matter who the nose tackle was.

Before you say I do not know TSB well enough, I have played entire seasons where I only allowed myself to kick field goals to score.

Try doing that against Kansas City or Oakland, and see how it turns out (newsflash: not well).

Was Bob Nelson better than every other nose tackle?

p.s. Tecmo Super Bowl was as close to perfect (in terms of sheer fun) as any football game has ever been.

  2. After rereading my comment, I really come off as a jerk.

All I really wanted to know was if Bob Nelson was better at the dive and sack the QB play than others.

I know that there was at least one player who was better at breaking through the line and blocking kicks than others (although the players name escapes me).

  3. I know that LT was pretty much dominant in the game as well, but Bob Nelson was just so bizarre in the way that he was so good when there was absolutely no reason to make him that good.
