Wednesday night notes

- No hockey for over a month is what the doctor ordered me.  I have a microfracture in my leg that basically just requires less stress being placed on it.  Funny thing about the bones near your knee is that they get used a lot each day.   It'll be a fun recovery... at least there is no surgery.

- Seriously... a congressman yelled out 'You lie' to the president during his speech tonight.  Good grief.  Have things really gotten that bad between the two parties?   The idiocy of what is going on right now just blows my mind.

- Did you see the Madden DLC that is on the way?  A tribute to the AFL.  I have to give it to them... that's one of their best addons in quite some time.  Much better than paying to be an "Elite" player.

- Watched I Love You, Man tonight.  The movie was hit and miss... but it did have the best Andre the Giant impression that I think I've ever heard.

- I laugh every time I watch this show...

- Any golfers have any tips for a very consistent push to the right?  (I, mostly, hit it straight... but it's always at a 30 to 35% angle to the right of where I'm aiming.)  I'm trying to rotate my bottom hand over to bring my swing around a bit.  I don't play a ton, but like everyone, I'd like to get a bit better.

  1. When you break down the flight of a golf ball it’s a combination of 2 things. Swing path and club face angle. Check out page 5 of this PDF http://www.buddyallingolf.com/images/Chapter2-BallFlightLaws.pdf A push as described would be a swing path from inside out (right handed golfer) and a club face that is squared to the swing path.

So if you feel like you are swinging straight at your target and with a square club face yet you push the ball, you are actually swinging outside in. While there could be about 10 things causing this, I’d be 95% sure that it’s an alignment issue. You are probably aimed that way and don’t realize it. The fix? Range time with an alignment aid. This can be as simple as laying down another club parallel to your intended target line….not at your target, parallel to it. If you see most of us on the range, you see that nobody does this; Yet if you go to a pro tournament and watch, 90% of them are doing this. The other 10% do it to, just not right then.

  2. Thanks for that document. I’m going back to the range today to try a few things out to see if I can correct it a bit.

Outside-in looks like what I’m dealing with, so I’ll spend a bit of time and see if I can try to correct it.

  3. Almost all amateur golfers are outside in, commonly refered to as over the top. Growing up I was ALWAYS over the top. As I’ve gotten better I am much closer to down the line or a tiny bit inside out which is what I want. My problem is releasing the club face, so my miss is a push-fade. Unfortunatly I usually setup for a push-draw so the fade part puts me way right.
