Damn, I missed this. How do you (or how can I) learn about these deals ahead of time?

They are part of the “lightning deals” that Amazon runs. If you go to Amazon.com, there is a today’s deals link at the top of the page that show you deals that will run for a short period of time each day. They also have some other deals that you can find when you click on the Video Game section as well. Deal of the Day as well as occasional lightning deals.
Good luck getting in on them though, they sell out quickly. When I got Killzone 2 for $20.00… it sold out in less than 2 seconds. The deals go quick, but if you’re on a good internet connection you can usually get in.
