The Blog for the Sports Gamer Three guys who love Sports Gaming rant and rave about various stuff.

Very early Tuesday morning notes

- Glad to see Dan keeping up on my interest in the Pro Yakyuu Spirits series.  Also, it was pleasant to see that it is being released in April.  For those of you interested, Konami has updated their page for the game.  Nothing other than screenshots, but from what I've read, the major additions are the "Grand Prix" mode (a card type game that seems to be all the rage lately... for some reason,) and the fact that they are releasing a PSP version of the game.

I'm very tempted by the PSP version... but who am I kidding... I'll probably pick up both.  I'm such a sucker for this game.

- My daughter is still pretty sick and hasn't been able to keep any food down and is running a 100 degree temperature.  It was a rough day, but she's been a trooper and hasn't complained much at all.  She wakes up... tells us that she is going to be sick and then goes to the bathroom with us to take care of it.   She'll have a lot of friends in college if that trend continues.

- Big game for the Badgers against Michigan State in Madison tonight.  These teams always seem to match up well and Wisconsin doesn't lose often in the Kohl Center (131-10 under Bo Ryan,) should be a fun one.

- I've been tearing through Mass Effect 2 over the last week and, at the rate I'm going, should have my first run through completed by the end of the week.

My experience with all of the gameplay refinements have all been positive ones.  From the removal of the elevators, to the elimination of the pointless driving segments of the first game, to adding the ability for you to be able to complete all hacks with a certain proficiency, the changes they have made all seem to be positive ones.

The one thing that I wish they hadn't changed so much was the planetary scanning for resources.  It's just so damn time consuming now.  I guess I can't say that it annoys me a ton though, as I found myself scanning my third planet tonight to get enough platinum for an upgrade.  Such is the life of a gamer, I suppose.

  1. Heh I am still working on getting everyone recruited and getting their personal missions done. Basically trying to do everything I can before I.. continue the main plot line. Don’t want to say anything specific of course.

I like most of the changes too. The game flows a lot smoother. You really can’t call it much of an RPG anymore though. Basically no inventory at all. Limited at best character development. I’m not complaining about it but they need to stop calling it an RPG in my opinion.

I really really really like the import affect when you import a ME1 character. You get all sorts of updates about seemingly every decision you made in ME1. Since I am playing my paragon guy I get a nice fuzzy feeling when all these good news/thank yous come in.

Heh it is fun to chase that Yeoman Kelly. That is all.

  2. AHHHHH I mean “effect” !!!! Not affect. :(

  3. It is funny that you mention the fact that it isn’t really an RPG. It really doesn’t follow any of the basic components of the classic role playing game.

Still it is quite fun though.

I’m through a few of the character personal missions at this point.

I goofed up when cleaning up my 360 drive a long time ago and when I was removing the game install, I deleted my ME saves. So, I’m starting all over again. Such is life. It would have been great to have seen how it would have continued from the last game, but I’m ok with what is going on in the story thus far.

  4. I saved all my crew on my first playthrough. How about you?

  5. Well, I just finished today too. Saved everyone and the galaxy. For now apparently. Completely awesome. Now I am going to play my renegade guy. I suspect I will have much fun with him.

As an aside, the detail in the game is probably the best ever. I highly recommend checking with everyone after every mission Joker in particular. Him and EDI had me literally lol a couple times. Check with the crew after the last mission too. I will buy any game BioWare makes ever.
