Fun with DSi XLVIIII
Before the DSi XL was released, I had preordered it – paying in full. Of course I had no idea that Nintendo would decide to preannounce the 3DS before it, so I could either wait until “whenever” the 3DSi would be released or enjoy the DSi XL.
I went with enjoying the DSi XL. I love the new screens. I’ve been playing FIFA 10 on it and wow, I can actually see what’s going on much, much better. I love the be a pro mode, it reminds me of what New Star Soccer did.
Anyway, the only new thing, as you’ve heard, is a bigger screeen, but as I get older, I can appreciate it. It’s the same small and thumb hurting d-pad – I had to take a break because the d-pad hurt my thumb so much.
Anyway, I like it.
Saturday night notes
- Woo! The Wisconsin hockey team is heading back to the Frozen Four after beating down the St. Cloud State Huskies 5-3. The Badgers really dictated the tempo of the game throughout and raced out to an early 3-0 lead, forcing St. Cloud to pull their starting goaltender in the first period. St. Cloud kept fighting back, but every time that they got within 1 goal, the Badgers would score another to open up a 2 goal lead again.
Now, I just have to debate if I want to go to Detroit... hmm....
- That Butler team just brings it to every game. Defensively they have made great plays at the end of each of their last two games. They will be very fun to watch in Indy next weekend.
Also, how in the hell does West Virginia win a game where it takes them 22 minutes to make a 2 point FG. Crazy.
- I picked up Sacred 2 for the PS3 as part of the Gamestop Gamedays sale and I have to say that it is pretty fun. I've always been a fan of these sort of action-RPG's, going back to the Baldur's Gate and Champions titles on the PS2. It's just nice and simple fun to pick up a quest, beat down some baddies, get some loot, and then move on to the next quest.
- As for other news, I have been running a temperature between 99 and 101 for most of the day. It did allow me to watch a lot of basketball and hockey, but still isn't much fun.
- More tomorrow .
MLB 2K10
Just played a spring training game using MLB Today mode. What a fun game. I beat the Red Sox 2-1 with a CG performance by Brian Matusz. Very exciting and a whole lot of fun.
MLB 2K10 is a very good game this year. Pick it up if you have a 360.
Quick Friday notes
- Really shirking on my duties here aren't I? heh.
- Last nights games were incredible. Specifically Butler v. Syracuse and Xavier v. West Virginia. The first game involved the upset of a #1 seed... leaving only two remaining, and the second involved a double overtime game. Awesome basketball.
- Can't wait for the Wisconsin hockey game tonight... although I won't be able to watch it live. I'll have to settle for recording it and watching it tomorrow morning, as I'm heading out to see one of my friends in his band tonight. I just love college hockey and the playoffs are always enjoyable, even if Wisconsin isn't taking part. You never know... you might see something like this happen again... I love thinking about that game... sigh...
- More later today.
NFL overtime rule changes
I know that some of you aren't big podcast fans, but I covered my feelings on this in my daily show over at www.sgmore.com.
I personally believe this is one of the more idiotic rule changes that the league has ever forced upon it's coaches and players. That's my brief analysis of the rule change. More in depth thoughts are available in the podcast.
Ugh. I don't want to get started about it again.
What are your thoughts on the change?
Day 7
Hey, it’s Day 7 of the floods, still waiting for the adjuster to come. Glad my $1,000 a year of premiums is going somewhere. Of course maybe there’s that .00001% chance it will be approved.
ANd of course it’s raining again.
I did get a chance to blow $20 on a vertical stand for my PS3 Slim. I can just see the wizards at Sony – let’s make it smaller and reduce the price but they’ll have to pay for a stand! What a great idea.
At least GoW 3 is good. That’s God of War, not Gears of War. I wonder when Penises of War will come out. Or is that Jonah Falcon porn? I can’t tell.
So, in other news, I still pick MLB 10 the Show over MLB 2K10, but MLB 2K10 is definitely not a bad choice if you only have a 360.
The Show’s classic stadiums are also fun. Just thought I’d point that out.
For those of you that added me to your facebook page (Hi Brett Todd), yes, I have Raptr, yes I got 600 GS in Backyard Football 10, and I am not ashamed to admit it. Okay it was my son playing it as his 360 got a little wet, but still.
Speaking of sports games, please tell me you saw the recent South Park with the new Tiger Woods 11 video game. It is hysterical. Watch the video here, all I will say is, “What Handkerchief?”
Quick Tuesday note
Nintendo 3DS? Ok....
Gotta say I didn't see that one coming.
Hmm... the reasons for me to consider going to E3 are growing.
What a hockey fight…
Here's a link to a Hockey Fight from Saturday night. Just two guys dropping the gloves, but it just keeps going and going.
I know that some people hate fighting in hockey, but this is an impressive battle between these two.
Throughout, you see them waving off the refs, telling them that they want to keep going, the refs moving stuff out of the way so they don't fall down, and the two are talking to each other throughout... crazy.
Monday notes
- Talk about a sports day let down. After that tournament weekend, it's hard to think of what to talk about next... um... Bucks fever anyone?
- Great to see the Twins sign Mauer, but at the same time... they'll be committing at least 25% of their salary for the next 8 years to 1 player. Maybe that will mean the Brewers will have a chance at resigning Prince this year. I'm not going to hold my breath on that though.
- Tiger went through 10 minutes of grueling interviews yesterday. Nothing to really say about that though.
- The Madden draft yesterday was unbelievably fast. It was over within 15 minutes with 5 teams attending. There is no pre-scouting of the draft, so you're guessing entirely on ratings. I think I ended up with one "A" prospect, one "B", and a lot of C's, D's, and F's. Rumor has it that next year will integrate a real off-season setup for the online franchises. True Free Agency and drafting would be a nice addition to the league setup.
I have no idea how some leagues manage 32 teams. We're struggling enough with 7.
Oh, and if anyone wants to join in, we have openings... and at this point, I'd let just about any team be picked to add more players. Drop me an email if you're interested.
- Going to sit down and watch a movie with the Mrs. Talk to you all tomorrow.
Quick Sunday Notes
- Without a doubt, Cornell is one of the better teams that I've seen in the tournament. They say that defense wins championships, but when you Cornell goes out and shoots 61% from the field against one of the top 5 defenses in the country... you have to start to wonder if that old axiom is true any more.
I don't want any of this post to sound like sour grapes, because Wisconsin was flat out dominated by the Big Red today. Cornell had no business being seeded like they were. Kentucky will have to put in a lot of time on the court in the next few days if they think they'll be able to beat this Ivy League champion.
- We're just about to kick off the Madden league draft process. I've been curious about how this would play out, and we're about to see how well the online draft stuff works. We're getting together most of the teams and I'll let you know how it works.
And… my brackets are done!
- My national championship game has been eliminated. Couldn't be happier about it. Seeing Villanova lose today to St. Mary's after getting an incredibly lucky win over Robert Morris on Thursday was a great thing, but nothing will top Northern Iowa beating Kansas today.
Kansas was the unanimous #1 team in the country in the last rankings, had the #1 overall seed in the brackets... and falls in the 2nd round. That is absolutely awesome.
So, my brackets are done as I only have Kansas State and Wisconsin left in my final four... and if you listen to the pundits, the Badgers should fall to Cornell tomorrow. I'm not sure that I believe that, but the way things are going for me... it definitely could happen.
Add that to Washington crushing New Mexico and you have another great day in the tournament.
- Speaking of Wisconsin, they won the 3rd place game in the WCHA playoffs today. That should pretty much wrap up a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament, but all of that should be finalized tomorrow.
- I started playing God of War 3 last night and I have to say that the game is epic in scale. The first battle against Poseidon is stunning. The game's graphics are amazing and there are almost no loading times. It's an amazing game thus far.
Quick Friday notes
- I really tried not to watch the Badger game, seeing as how I was taping it at home... but I caved... due to the fact that they had a TV on where I was working this afternoon. A much closer game than I would have liked to have seen, but Wisconsin pulled it out in the end after hitting two big free throws to put them up by 4 with 5 seconds left in the game.
Wofford really killed themselves by shooting so horribly from the free throw line, and the Badgers really need to hit a lot more shots if they're going to get by Cornell on Sunday.
- I did manage to avoid hearing about the Wisconsin hockey game though. That I will be watching as soon as I get home.
- Nothing really going on for me as far as gaming is concerned. I have stuck with MLB2K10 and am playing that a great deal more than the Show. I just really love the 'My Player' mode despite it's flaws (relief pitchers bat far too often, my player plays long after he should be taken out.) It's just fun to play and that is very refreshing.
- More later tonight (if I get a chance. We have another home showing tomorrow that I have to prepare for.)
Quick 1st round notes
- Robert Morris got jobbed. That's about all there is to say about it. Incredibly questionable foul calls that kept putting Villanova on the line. That stunk. I have Villanova in the championship game, but they really didn't deserve that game.
- BYU gets it done in double OT. A really fun game to watch. Florida had a huge comeback in the second half to get caught up and BYU tied it up late to force OT. Terrific game for the first round.
More later...
Get those brackets in…
Only an hour left before the first games of the tournament.
Oh, and if you've signed up for the other bracket challenge that I'm doing for the Radio show site, you can just import your picks into the Sports Gamer Blog one. I did that for mine, nice and easy way to fill out the 2nd bracket.
More after some of the games...
