Thursday Fun

My real job carries me around internationally – so today I was on my first overseas call. Nothing like getting up at 5AM.

And of course, as I go down to my basement office, I have even more water in my basement.

Some of the comments asked to see the photos, which I have posted on my twitter account.

That gives you an idea of how it looks after backbreaking water extraction. I give up. My back is killing me. Wahh!

No time to play games at the moment…

Still alive but flooded

I’m still alive but flooded. Someone decided to push my sump pump hose back into my house while I was away, resulting in my basement being pumped full of water. Good times.

More later.

Tuesday night notes

- I've spent some more time with MLB2K10 tonight, post patch on the 360.  I've seen quite a few check swings out of the CPU and the commentary has changed for it's inclusion as well.  Other than that, I haven't seen many changes, but I stuck to the 'My Player' career that I have been working on.  My reliever for the Nationals has been pitching pretty well and, shockingly, the Nationals are in the lead for the NL East in 2011.  In no small part to my player, I'm sure.

- The field of 64 has finally been set after the "opening round" game tonight in Dayton.  Please continue to get your brackets in for the Sports Gamer Blog or the Sports Games and More contests.  Also, please keep filling in the generic brackets.  It's fun to see how those shape up as well.

If you're having a hard time signing up for the brackets, just let me know and we'll get you in.

- Yet another slow day in the sports world.  I'll be back tomorrow.  Have a great St. Patty's Day.

Generic brackets

I mentioned this on the radio show this morning and I'm curious as to how many people would want to participate.

I would like to see how people do when filling out brackets that have no team names associated with them.  So, I created a "blank slate" where you just pick by numbers.  There are no regions assigned in these generic brackets, so it's all up to the numbers as how you will do.

If you feel like taking part, download the brackets and the email them to me and I'll compile them and compare them to the brackets that you fill out for the blog or for the radio show.

Shouldn't take too much time to complete, and it should be fun to see how the results match up.

The game of the year!

The Sports Gamer Blog Madden league Super Bowl is here.  Tonight at 8 Central time, the Indianapolis Colts will match up against the (twice beaten by the lowly St. Louis Rams) Seattle Seahawks.

We'll be doing an Xbox Live party if people are interested in hearing about the game as it happens.   If you're on our friends lists, we should be able to invite you in.  Should be a good time to have the beverage of your choice and sit back and chat with some fellow sports gamers.

Edit:  After 1 quarter, Indianapolis is up 14-0 after a pick-6 of Hasselbeck, but Seattle is on the Indy 2 yard line and is threatening.

Edit 2: After the first half, Indianapolis is up 35-21.  Seattle has 2 turnovers (1 fumble, and 1 interception) that have been returned for a touchdown.  That has to hurt.  Seattle will start the 2nd half with the ball.  Fun stat of the first half... Indy has scored 35 points... and has completed 4 passes.  Oh, and Indy has a kickoff returned for a TD.

Edit 3: 3 quarters down... and Seattle is dominating the time of possession, but is still down two TD's (but is about to score to get within 1 again.)

It's a final!  Indianapolis defeats Seattle after getting a late pick to seal the game.   Indy wins 49-42 in the highest scoring Super Bowl of all time.

Stats and updates in the post game show.  Congratulations to Joel for winning the championship.  On to the offseason!

If you'd like an invite.  Drop me an email and I'll get you invited to the group.

Quick Sunday Notes

- Brackets are out.  I should have the invites for our bracket challenge sent out later today or first thing tomorrow.

I will also be doing another bracket contest at the radio show site, so if you're looking to get another entry in for a chance at some prizes... that's another way to go.

- My wife and I put our house on the market on Saturday at 3:00 p.m.  We had a showing today at 1:45.  So much for a slow housing market.  Still don't have great hopes for selling the place quickly, but you never know.

- More later tonight... time to head to hockey now.

Friday Fun Notes

  • My Velocity Micro PC died yesterday. I shut it off last night and went to turn it on. No juice at all. It is under warranty but why would I want to replace a crappy power supply with another one. I bought a new 750W Corsair power supply, everything is working and it is much quieter. Very cool!
  • I used the preorder code to finally unlock the classic stadiums in MLB the Show. After watching some Orioles games this year, I’m scared that last year was a good year. Very scared.

Thursday night notes

- So, I started to try out the newest DLC for Borderlands tonight and was terribly disappointed.  Not in the quality of it, but the insane difficulty of it.  I died 3 times in the first 5 minutes of it.  Having a 50th level character and jumping into the addon that allows you to finally move on beyond level 50 should mean that you would have some decent enemies for a bit before you would get whomped on.  There is no need to stomp on you right from the get go.  Crazy.   Oh, and it locked up on me twice.  I certainly hope I'm not running into a situation like Dan did.

- Other than that... it was a very slow news day.  Some conference tournament upsets... but that's about it.

- Badgers v. Illini: Part...um... Trois tomorrow at 1:30.  I'll be at a company lunch during it though... so I'll have to watch it on my phone.  Priorities and all.

- Then Badger hockey tomorrow night as they take on AK-AK for the start of the WCHA playoffs.

- I got a few Blur beta codes for the 360.  I'll be posting them over at my radio show site tomorrow.   Grab them and comment on it if you take them.  Thanks!

Wednesday night notes

- I would like to play some games tonight, I really would... but man am I tired.  Only 4 hours sleep for each of the last two nights.  I'm going to head to bed as soon as I'm done with the post here.

- The radio show is getting more and more comfortable every day.  I find the time for the show going by faster with each episode and find that I am becoming a good deal more comfortable talking about nothing in particular.  It's riveting stuff.   Hope you're all enjoying it.

- No idea what to think about the Playstation Move controller.  I love my PS3 (s) but I'm not entirely sure that I want to spend $100 on more controllers for it.  It all comes down to the software for it.  If there are some great games, I'll pick them up eventually.  That's just the way it works for me.

- Rock Band 3 was officially announced today and I heard a collective... meh.  I used to love playing Rock Band, but I've just lost my interest.  When I used to play the drums, and I use the term play loosely, it was all about playing the songs that you loved, but playing them in their own way.  What I've found after playing the Rock Band and Guitar Hero games for as long as I have is that... I don't want to be led through a song... I want to play it myself.  I don't see them going in that direction with the series, but I often am wrong.  Hopefully that will be the case here.

- On-Live is going to charge you $15 a month to pay for the right to rent games?   Heh. Good luck with that one.

- Ever wonder why you pay so much for Cable or Satellite?   Thanks ESPN and Fox!

Wednesday Deep Thoughts

It is Wednesday, right? I lose track of time.
I haven't been doing much gaming this week, between work and school, it's been tough to keep up.
I received my coffin for my borked PS3 on Monday via UPS 2Day, and Sony pays (well I paid $29 for shipping but it's included) for 3 day select. That means they'll have my borked PS3 on Friday.
So it looks like I'll have my PS3 slim next week. At least I'm hoping.
So that means in this generation of consoles, the only one that hasn't borked is the Wii. Go figure.
Last generation, my Xbox had to be replaced, but not my PS2...

Monday night notes

- The Sports Gamer Blog Madden 10 league has ended the regular season and it couldn't have finished with a better offensive game.  Neither team punted during the game as my Rams beat the 49ers, 35-28.  The last score came with :16 seconds on the clock, so it was right down to the wire.

No playoffs for either of us, but it was a great game to finish the season on.   3 league teams made the playoffs this year... here's the list.

Joel's Indianapolis Colts finish the season at 14-2 and have home field throughout the playoffs.

Craig's Seattle Seahawks finished 13-3 (two losses to me... thank you very much) and earned the #1 seed in the NFC.

Last, and certainly least, Joe's Arizona Cardinals finished 10-6 and grabbed the NFC #5 seed.

The league was a great deal of fun this year and I can't wait to watch the playoffs and start the off season.

- It certainly didn't take long for NHL2K11 to go from people thinking that the game was cancelled, to announcing the newest cover athlete.  This year it will be Ryan Kesler, he who scored the game tying goal in the gold medal game for the U.S.   Not a bad pick... but as a hockey fan, I would have been happier if they could have gotten Crosby.

- Wow.  St. Mary's is putting a hurt on 14th ranked Gonzaga.  Didn't see that coming.  Who doesn't love March Madness?
