Monday Morning Notes
- Ok, so the NFL will be back to business soon.
It's amazing to see how much coverage and fan interest there is in a story where the fans get absolutely nothing out of it. Actually, I take that back. We'll get to pay everyone a lot more money by the time it's all done. Whew. Glad that they were able to make sure that we got some benefit from the deal as well.
- Last night was my first night back at hockey and while my skill level is not where I want it to be, I was incredibly glad to be back out on the ice.
It only took a few shots in warmup before someone hit me in the right shoulder. Nice to get that out of the way quickly so I wouldn't have to worry about it being hurt if someone hit me up there during the game.
No real issues as far as injuries though, so that's a good thing.
- The other thing that I'm really looking into now is a good road bike. The hybrid that I've been riding with has been fine for a while, and is great for going on rides with the Mrs, but I really need something else for races and for longer rides that I would like to go on.
One item that has surprised me is how much my budget for the bike keeps changing. Initially I was thinking 7 or 800, then 1,100.... now I'm hearing that I'm crazy unless I look at a Carbon frame. Ugh.
Hopefully I'll be able to make a decision before the end of the week.
- Brewers ran into some great pitching in San Francisco this weekend. Thankfully they're not the only one that has struggled against that staff this year. The thing was that they gave up 2 runners at 3rd on Saturday night in a game that they lost by two runs. That just kills you.
Now they go into a stretch of 18 games against the NL Central. If they're going to make a move to try and create some space between themselves and the rest of the division, they need to do that now.
- Lastly, I took the time over the weekend to configure the Freespace Open Installer on my new PC and start playing through the original game again.
I'm constantly amazed at the work that modders put into older games like that. The game still plays amazingly well after all this time. Here's hoping that the Sol:Exodus guys can try to recapture some of that greatness.

I know GOG had a post about Freespace mods when they had a sale a week or two ago. Looked pretty good. I just downloaded Homeworld 2 because I saw some great mods for it.
Also, you got a fantasy football site scoped out? CBS seemed to work pretty good last year and we are all familiar with it now with the football, baseball, and bracket challenge. But I am no fantasy grognard so there might be better out there that I don’t know about.

I picked up Freespace 1 and 2 when GOG launched, and didn’t see anything before that.
Actually, you can play Freespace 1 without any copy of Freespace 2 thanks to the FSO. The game looks an amazing amount better than it originally did. These guys deserve a ton of credit for their work.
For fantasy, unless someone can give me a great reason, we’ll stick with CBS. I’m happy with the ease of changing rosters around it’s never really been a big problem to run the draft through it.
