Monday notes

- Moving on to the Michigan State/Wisconsin game on Saturday, I hadn't seen this until this morning.

For the link impared, William Gholston for Michigan State jumped on a pile late against Michigan and wrenched Denard Robinson's head around, then punched another player in the head later.  Both events caught on camera.  Not really sure how he managed to not be ejected from the game, but it will be interesting to see how the Big Ten handles something like this.

In the past when players have been caught doing stuff like this, the team usually suspended them (like in the case of when OSU's Robert Reynolds choked Jim Sorgi of Wisconsin in 2003.)  Hopefully Mark Dantonio does the right thing and suspends him before the Big Ten has to get involved.

This is a huge game for both teams, and is the first big road test for the UW as they try to prove that they are one of the top teams in the country.

Should be a fun one on Saturday night.

- I've decided against picking up the NHL Gamecenter package.  While it would be awesome to see the Islanders, especially when they're playing as well as they have to start the year, spending $160 to do so just seems like too much at the moment.   Also, my wife said that it would be my Christmas present if I bought the package... and I guess I want to hold off for something better than that.

I can always catch the highlights later, I guess.

- Yesterday, I started to play Madden again after listening to Dan and Craig talk about it on the latest podcast and found that I was enjoying the game, with the major exception being the fact that I still get so tired of seeing linebackers jump up and knock so many passes out of the air.

I really tried to get out of the mindset of trying to run slant routes, but what I found is that running an offense, like the Packers do, is nearly impossible in the game play.

We'll see if things change all that much with the upcoming patch for the game.  Usually things don't get tweaked too much, but we might be surprised.

- There is a demo out on the Xbox marketplace for Kinect Sports Season 2.   I haven't seen which sports are included in the demo, but for those of you out there with a Kinect, give it a go.

- I think I've finally caved and have decided to purchase Batman: Arkham City tomorrow.  I have a $10 reward cert and $35 gift card to spend at Best Buy, so being able to pick up the sequel to a game that I absolutely loved (Arkham Asylum) seems like a win/win for me.

- Fairway Collector's Edition is still the game that is absorbing the majority of my gaming time right now though.  Simple, yet incredibly addictive gameplay with a sports feel.  Just a terrific game.

- Oh, and I am partial to Nelson Cruz of the Rangers due to the fact that he came up through the Brewers system, but my dislike for the Cardinals and Tony La Russa wins out as the main reason to pull for Texas this year.  As every sports fan should know, you never cheer for a team in your division to win the championship, other than your own.   (And that's my last baseball post for this season.  I'm sure that will make everyone happy.  heh.)

Wednesday notes

- Oh, well.  Brewers lost due to Marcum's inbility to throw strikes and when he did.... he threw them on counts where he was ahead and should have been throwing to avoid contact.

Here's hoping Wolf (and players like Morgan and Weeks) can finish off the D-Backs tonight.

- I already have 4 hours into Fairway Collector's Edition.  Man, that game is crazy addictive.  It does seem to be quite a bit harder than the last game, if that sort of thing interests you.

- My early time with NBA2K12 has been spent in the MyPlayer mode so far and I've been a bit frustrated with the goals that have been given to my player.

Just to let you know how my player started up, he finished with a A- rating in the rookie challenge game that defines where you will be drafted.

Once you're in the regular season (I was drafted by Golden State at number 11) you get goals for each game.  The goals, in my case, weren't all that difficult... but they didn't give me enough time to actually complete them all.  For example, they'd give me a goal of 'get one defensive rebound,' but then only leave me in the game for 2 minutes before pulling me for the remainder of the game.

My hope is that my playing time will increase as the season goes on and that will take care of the issue.  Otherwise it's going to be pretty damn hard to find a spot in the lineup.

- The downloadable edition of NBA Jam was released yesterday by EA, anyone pick it up?

- Lastly, there is a HUGE Gran Turismo 5 update coming out in the next few weeks that will be adding in-car views for all cars, new cars, new tracks, game loading, in race saves, and support for Logitech's top two wheels (the G25 and G27, which I happen to own.)

What's crazy about the update is that it will be totally free.  They've added a ton of features since the game came out and they've done it all without adding any additional cost to the user.

Developers such as Polyphony Digital should be lauded when they support their games for as long as they have.

The game just dropped to $39.99, so if you've been at all interested in the game, now is a great time to pick it up.

- Have a great rest of the day.

Done with NCAA Football 12

So, I went from in love with NCAA and my online dynasty, to quitting the whole thing at the BCS championship game.

Here's what happened.

Last night, I got home from hockey and decided to play the BCS championship game between my Utah State Aggies and Boise State.  The game was incredible.  Throughout the whole year, I was squeaking out wins and had really leaned on my incredibly average running backs to carry me from game to game, but for the championship I felt like I needed to put the ball into the air and my QB didn't let me down for one second.  In the game he threw for 414 yards and  4 TD's and only one interception.  The game was still in doubt though, because of the fact that my defense could not stop Boise either.  Back and forth the game went until Boise scored with 2:15 left in the 4th to pull to within 2, at 35 to 33.  (I had held them to 2 short chip shot field goals, which is why I was up by 2 at that point.)

On the 2 point conversion my defensive back jumped a slant route and picked off the conversion and ran it back 102 yards for 2 points for my Aggies.

On the ensuing kickoff, I recovered the onside kick and amazingly bust a 45 yard run for the game clinching score and I won the BCS championship game, 44-33.   I couldn't recall playing a game that I enjoyed more or felt as tense playing throughout, it was an incredible matchup and the game played out as perfectly as I could have possibly hoped.

I saved a few highlights and then left the game ready to see how my recruiting would pan out for the next season, but once I exited the game, it told me that it couldn't contact the online server.  I checked the webpage and found that the dynasty server seemed to be online... so I went to retry to save my game.  No go.

Fine, I thought... I'll wait for a half hour and come back and try to connect again.  No luck.

Ok, last resort... I'll leave my 360 on overnight and try it again in the morning.  The game locked up in the middle of the night and I lost the whole thing.

Normally one lockup wouldn't cause me this much stress, but this was the 5th game lockup with NCAA that I had this week.  I've never had that many lockups with a game before... (even when my first 360 red ringed on me.)

I've had it... I'm done with the game and my dynasty.   Before you ask, I've done all of the patches and tuning updates for the game.  I just can't believe how frustrated that I am to lose the results of the game because it couldn't talk to the server.  Why it couldn't allow me to save the franchise locally and then try to re-upload again when the connection is re-established is beyond me.   So, there's my warning to you all.  If you have any sort of internet issues, you can lose whatever you're doing in your NCAA Football 12 online season.

Thursday notes

- Just to sum it up quickly.  Nyjer should have walked back to the dugout quicker (but let's be clear... he was walking toward the dugout) and Pujols shouldn't have escalated the event by trying to run at Morgan.  Still have no idea why Morgan was tossed, but not Pujols.  It was a nothing incident until Albert made it one.

Still, the Brewers have an 8 1/2 game lead and head into a big playoff preview series with the Phillies tonight.   I was planning on taking some pictures at the game... but I forgot my camera because of the fact that my daughter overslept and caused the morning to be a good deal more hectic than I wanted it to be.  Oh, well.

- I'm really trying hard to like NCAA Football 12 right now.  I'm going into the 5th game of my online dynasty with Utah State and I've already had three game lockups and have had numerous issues with the online recruiting page logging me out or not allowing me to add a certain player to my list of players that I am attempting to recruit.

Still, I've had some fun games that are derailed from time to time due to the superhuman linebackers that seem to always know exactly when to jump 4 feet into the air to knock down a pass to a wide open receiver, but that's to be expected.

I really, desperately, want to keep playing the game though, as I'm really starting to like a few of my players.  We'll see if I can stick with it despite the game issues though.

- My thoughts go out to all of the family and friends of the hockey players that lost their lives in the plane crash in Russia earlier this week.  It's absolutely amazing how few times incidents like this happen with sporting teams traveling as much as they do, but it doesn't make them any less horrible events when they do happen.

- I'm efforting an NHL 12 interview with one of their developers before the game is released next week, but it may not work out scheduling wise.  Here's hoping that it can all come together though.

- Lastly, NFL Rivals launches today on the iPod Touch, iPhone, and iPad.  What is NFL Rivals?  Well, it's Backbreaker with an NFL license on mobile devices.

So, sad that we couldn't get the console version updated with an NFL license...

- Have a great day everyone.

Tuesday notes

- The magic number is now down to 11.

Thankfully that 3 game losing streak to the Cardinals last week did not extend into Houston, or into St. Louis yesterday.  The Brewers division lead is now back up to 10 1/2 games.  Now the big talk is making sure that the Brewers hang onto the 2nd best record in the National League to make sure that they don't have to face the Phillies in the first round of the NLDS.

I guess we'll see how that match up might look this week when the Phillies come to Milwaukee.  Of course I get to see Narveson start on Thursday night when I go, but I'm just happy that I'll be there.

- Yesterday I started up an Online dynasty with Utah State in NCAA Football 12.  I picked Utah State because I felt so badly about their losing the game to Auburn the other day and thought that I owed it to myself to right the wrong that was done on that day.

One thing that I have been impressed with (outside of the fact that the page seems to have errors whenever I try to click on anything after leaving it open for 5 minutes) is the Online Dynasty webpage.  Being able to do all of my recruiting from a browser is much easier than having to navigate through the menus and icons on my 360.

One issue that I have is the fact that I created it as a private dynasty, so I cannot share my team story with the world, but I'm debating some other ways to do that.   So, if you hear me talking about my Aggies in the future, this will be what I'm referring to.

- Outside of that, it was a pretty lazy weekend around the ol' Haag household.  The kids played a lot around the house and I started my newest project at home, the construction of an outdoor hockey rink for the winter.

With some luck, I'll be renting a bobcat in a few weeks to clear out the area where the rink will go and then I'll be starting the process of getting the area ready for ice sometime in December.

I have some pretty big plans for the rink in the long run (no boards or warming house this year,) but it should be a pretty fun project that will allow me to spend a lot of time on the ice with my daughters and neighbors.

- Lastly, I had no idea how many games were coming out this week.  Resistance 3, Driver: San Francisco, Star Fox 3D, and Warhammer 40000: Space Marine all could find their way into my home at some point, but I think for now I'll just stick with trying to finish up the games that I've been renting recently.  Gotta save some money somewhere.

- Later, all.

Madden NFL 12 notes

Bear with me, as this is probably one of the longest posts that I've ever done... but here we go.

I initially wondered why the embargo for Madden was 8 a.m. CST on the Friday before the game launches... as that's pretty unusual timing.  Then I remembered the Season Pass.  TONS of impressions will be out about the game by around Noon, as anyone with $25 bucks will have had a few hours with the title.  I guess that gives me a few hours before everyone can jump in with their thoughts, so here goes.

The first thing that I did when I was working on writing up my thoughts for Madden NFL 12 was to go back and look at what I wrote about last years title.

One of the biggest issues that I had with the game was the kickoff coverage. Well, that seems to have been resolved by the fact that more often than not most kicks will not be returned.  If they are?  The team will get the ball right around the 20.  The blocking is just as bad as it was last year.   Maybe there's a chance that I'm really terrible at kick returning, which is highly possible, but again no blockers seem to want to try and engage any player that is coming down the field.  Oh, well.  I beat this topic to death last year,  so let's move on.

Next up, last year I spent a good bit of time talking about the Madden Moments.  They are back this year, but there are only 5 available right out of the box and, as a Packer fan, none of them were really all that compelling to me.  (Eagles vs. Packers - beat the Packers, Bucs vs. Cardinals - beat the Cardinals, Eagles vs. Giants - come back from 31-10 down with Eagles, Jets vs. Colts - beat the Colts, Ravens vs. Steelers - Beat the Ravens.)  Since they really haven't changed that much there, I left that feature alone.

- Looking at the changes for this years game, the one thing that I would say that they spent a considerable amount of time on was the presentation of the game.  Every team has an introduction moment at each of their home games and if that sort of thing matters to you, they've really done a great job there.

A lot has been done to make the game look more like it is an actual TV broadcast rather than a game that you are playing.  For example, the default camera on the kickoff is that of a side shot of the kickoff taking place.  You can press a button to get the "default camera angle" but as soon as the play begins it reverts back to the broadcast style camera.    Other elements in relation to the presentation that have been enhanced are the 3D grass, lighting that changes as the game goes on, and uniform degradation as the game goes on.

- In the actual gameplay side of things, the biggest addition is that of the new collision system that has been integrated.  If you've played NCAA 12 and have seen some of the more violent tackles that are taking place in the game, you'll feel comfortable with what has been changed in Madden as it has a very similar feel.   It's not a good or bad change, there are just more hits that will make you wonder how the guy either (a. hung onto the ball or b. is still conscious.)  Sure there are regular type tackles, but the violent ones really stick out in my mind.

Going further into the gameplay, I still have run into far too many situations where I've been running the ball behind my fullback and have watched him run right past a linebacker to try and block a safety 6 yards further down the field.  What's funny is that running, in my experience, still isn't all that hard... even with issues like that.  I'm only playing on All-Pro to this point, but even with flawed blocking logic... you can still do a much better job on the ground than the CPU.   Speaking of the CPU running ability, I have yet to see the computer even approach 100 yards rushing in a game.  The closest that I've seen, for the CPU, is 58 yards in 7 minute quarters.  As for me, I busted off 225 (in a single game) with Ryan Grant for the Packers, and have had a good deal of 100 yard games to go along with that.

One beef that I have with the game (that has not been addressed for years) has to do with clock management.  Again, with or without gameflow, the CPU seems to have no idea as to what to do when there is a 2:00-minute drive or a clock killing situation.   Here's a great example.  I was beating the Saints 45-7 in the first game of the year with the Packers.  There was about 1:30 seconds left in the game, with the ball on their own 20, and on the first play the Saints ran the ball (which is exactly what they should be doing.)  They gained 2 yards and then proceeded to go no-huddle and start throwing the ball.  The second pass was intercepted and returned for a TD to put the Packers up 52-7.  What did they do when they got the ball back with about 0:40 seconds left?  The same thing... a single run, then no-huddle on the next play.  That kind of stuff is just so frustrating to me.  Sure, I love to beat a team down as much as the next guy, but c'mon....

- Probably the coolest two feature additions in gameplay are the implementation of a receiver specific pump fake (this is an awesome feature that will really add a bit to player vs. player games) and a diving catch button.  I feel that those two features add a lot to the gameplay.   Along with the pump fakes, they've added some new routes such as the sluggo, in/out n up, and hitch/curl n go and you can see how that feature becomes a big one.   The CPU doesn't bite on the fakes every time, but enough so that it makes it worth your while to use them.

- When I heard that one of the new features was called Dynamic Player Performance...the first thing I thought of was Bases Loaded II and how players would go hot or cold during the year.  (I guess I'm just an old gamer that looks way back when I think of a similar feature.)   If you listened to our interview in regards to this feature, it's a concept that seems interesting... but limited in it's implementation.  Hot and Cold streaks can ONLY last 3 games before a player reverts back to his normal rating levels.  I guess that's a way to keep people from being frustrated at a player that sucks for a long time, but it doesn't seem as realistic to me.

Along with the streaky-ness of a player, there are various traits that certain players have or can gain over time.  From the interview, this system seems like it's a "you have it or you don't" kind of thing where a player could have a trait buried in their ratings waiting to be unlocked or they will never be anymore than they are, regardless of how great you play with them.  Maybe I misheard what he said, but that's the gist of what he was getting across to me.   I'm torn as to whether I believe that  players could become totally dominant if you are in charge of them, or could be nothing more than an average player regardless of what you do with them.  I'll have to think more on that.

- In the franchise mode, the big changes have to do with the 75 player roster coming into the preseason, so you have to manage (or have the CPU handle) cuts of players, the scouting system, and  the Free Agency system.

As far as the cuts go, you don't see the full rankings for a rookie player that you're evaluating, so you have to guess as to how good you think they might be before you cut them.  It's an interesting concept, but unless you're ultra focused on the performance of your 3rd lineman in a preseason game, you're going to have a hard time knowing if you're cutting a sleeper player or someone who you just haven't seen enough of yet.

As far as scouting is concerned, you have the ability to pick 20 players that you want to evaluate that will be coming into the next draft class (as far as I could tell it would only be college seniors that you're evaluating during the regular season.)  Once the season is done, then you move onto the combine and you can scout either the same 20 players (and get more information on them) or another 20 players to get a bit more information on them.  After that, you have Pro Days where you can get a bit more info on players, then finally you have individual workouts where you can get all of the ratings for 5 players that you're really interested in.

What I didn't like about the system was that it was really hard to find a sleeper player for your team.  You're totally guessing based 0n the initial 20 players as to what needs your team might have and what player you might evaluate.  After that, you have to throw all of your recruiting time into those guys and if it doesn't pan out... you've pretty much wasted all of your scouting efforts.  Again, as I said in the interview, perhaps someone will come up with a great tutorial of a way to really work the system... but for me... I found the process limiting and frustrating.

Lastly, you have the Free Agency changes.  The free agent system takes place in an eBay bidding style of auction.  As soon as free agency starts, teams start bumping up the initial amount that a player is asking for.  Each player has a set amount of time that they will wait for bids, so you need to really know ahead of time what positions you're looking to fill and how much money you can commit to them.

Two things that I found interesting about this mode.  You can back out of the free agency mode at any time (and stop the clocks) to go back and look at your team to evaluate what you need...because you can't do it from the free agency screen.   Second, it seemed to be pretty easy to sneak in at the absolute last second and outbid the CPU teams that were bidding on certain players.   Maybe I just got lucky with that, but it seemed like the thing to do was to identify your team need and then steal the guy at the last second if you really want him.  Perhaps other people will have different experiences with this, but that's what I saw.

- Beyond that, there were no changes made to the Online Franchise mode.  What they have done is to create a partnership with myLeagueManager.net to flesh out more of the system, but I haven't had a chance to see how well any of that will work.

Also, they have added the online community feature where you can be a part of, up to 5, communities where all of the rules and sliders for the game are set and you will play against a group of people that have only been allowed into that community.  That's an interesting concept and one that I think we might make use of here.  Set the rules for Sportsgamerblog.com and see how everyone does with those rules.

Lastly, the Madden Ultimate Team feature is back.  For the life of me, I just don't get this mode, but if you do... there is now the ability to trade your cards that you've acquired.  There you go.

- My thoughts?  It's a lot like last years game with some pleasant additions, but neglecting things that really have bothered me in the past (A.I. for blocking, and horrible clock management.)

I cannot deny that the game is fun to play, but it's just frustrating to me to see a game that is still struggling with fixing some of the basic problems that they have had in the game for the past few years.

I can see that it is a game that I will play for a few days or weeks, but I just don't know how much fun I'll have with it over the long haul, as those nagging issues just irritate me more and more as time goes on.

There you have it, 2,100+ words on Madden NFL 12.  Feel free to drop an email or a comment to let me know if you have more questions or thoughts.

Wednesday notes

- Wish I knew what to say about the Madden interview.  You can hear the turn signal for the car that he was either driving in or was riding in and there are more than a few questions where he doesn't know the answer or guesses at what I was asking about.

Typically, my interviews that I have done with EA Sports people have been at least a bit informative, but this one really didn't get us all that much.

Sorry about that.

- With the demo for NHL 12 coming out last night, I gave that game a look as well and I'm constantly impressed by how well the game plays and how much it feels like real hockey.

Scoring was not coming easily for me though with my time in the demo.  Maybe it's just my being rusty though.  Yeah... that must be it.

I did see a few really cool shots and saves in my games last night though.  On one save, Luongo made a sprawling splits save where his left leg just kicked out in the nick of time to prevent a nice one-timer.

I'm working on efforting an interview with the EA guys and hope to have something before the release of the game in the 2nd week of September.

- If anyone has some great diet advice, I'm struggling here.  For the first time in my life, I'm eating small meals and exercising and still gaining weight and it's driving me nuts.  Maybe I'm not doing enough exercise, but I'm just getting frustrated here as I really want to lose 10 to 15 pounds before my race next month.  Grr.

- Lastly, I started watching the Fritz Lang classic, Metropolis last night and I have to say that I'm amazed at the visuals that they were able to pull off on a movie made in 1927.

I've never watched the movie before (and am watching the fully restored version recently released on Blu-Ray,) so I'm really enjoying getting to watch this classic for the first time.

Tuesday notes

- Well, the Brewers now have their largest division lead in franchise history, at 9 games.

It's really hard to know what to say about the team... other than the fact that they have just been so damn much fun to watch.  Again, runs like this team has been on do not come very often around here, so as fans, we're just enjoying as much as is possible.

Hopefully it'll become something special by the time the year is done, but if not... we're just enjoying the ride.

Oh, and they're on the cover of Sports Illustrated this week.  Hmm... that might not be a good thing....

- I should be posting an interview with Mike Young, the Creative Director for Madden NFL 12 later today.  Hopefully you'll enjoy that.  I got in all of the questions that were passed along to me, so hopefully you'll get the answers you wanted to hear.

- The NHL 12 demo has been released today.  Seeing as how this is the only NHL title this year, I hope it'll be as good as the past years efforts have been.

- That'll do for now.

18Aug/110

Thursday notes

- Well, I was very pleased to come home last night and find my copy of Madden 12 sitting there for the Xbox 360. I'm under embargo until the 25th, so you won't hear anything about it until then, but at least you have something to look forward to.

Keep on firing Madden questions my way and I'll add them to the list for the interview next week.

- Another nice Brewers win last night that included some great defensive plays from both teams. This stretch of 19 wins in their last 21 games has just been amazing. I know that it will come to an end eventually, but it's great to think that your team has a good chance to pull out a win every day.

That's not something that happens all that often here.

- I'm still looking into other fantasy league sites, as I have only used CBS in the past, but if anyone has suggestions about their favorite free site, let me know.

- That'll do for now. Have a good rest of the day.

12Aug/110

Friday notes

Quite the busy week here, so I'll get you all caught up.

- Brewers cheated their way into taking 2 of 3 from the Cards this week.

You can't complain about a 5-1 road trip and taking 4 of 6 from the rival that is closest to you in the standings.

Also, middle of August with a 4 game lead is a good thing as well.  Hopefully they can continue their great pitching against the Pirates and really put them away this weekend.

- I played around with the Madden demo on Wednesday night and while I was enjoying the game I still saw more than a few clock management issues.  Most of them are the garden variety, same as always, 2 minute drill management problems for the CPU though.  So, no real poing in re-hashing all of those issues to you all.  You know they exist and expect them to keep showing up in the new version.

One thing that I saw, that I didn't recall from the past, was some weird collision detection issues.

In one instance, Cutler was getting sacked by Jenkins and he reacted to the sack before Jenkins made contact with him.  It was very odd.  It looked like Cutler had a sort of halo around him and his body reacted before there was contact.  Hard to explain, but as soon as I saw it, I knew there was something weird there.

I'm working on putting together an interview with the Madden team, so hopefully we'll be able to get you some more information in the next week or so.

- We have a few slots still open for Fantasy football.  I can't get access to last years roster, so if you were in last year and want another crack at it, give me a holler and we'll get you in.

- I had a chance to play 18 holes last night and hit a 53 on the front and then fell apart on the back for a 56.

What sucked was that I had a 9 on the 8th hole on the front.  I could have easily broken 50 last night and that would have been  my first time ever doing that.  Gotta keep at it.

- Hope you all have a great weekend.

9Aug/110

Quick Tuesday notes

- The Madden NFL 12 demo is out on the Xbox 360 and should be out on the Playstation Network later today.

The demo contains 4 - 5 minute quarters and allows you to replay the NFC championship game from last year (hopefully with an ability to replay the Raji interception.)

Post your thoughts on it when you get a chance.

- Gamefly is offering a signup for their new PC downloading service beta.  Click on the link if you'd like to sign up for it.

As for me, I'm really starting to get back into PC gaming again, so I'm really curious to see what they'll be offering and how it will work.

- Big series for the Brewers starting tonight.  I'll try to post about it after game 1.

28Jul/111

Thursday night notes

Quite a bit going on....

- So, Kolb to Arizona... everyone knew that one was coming.

McNabb to Vikings... no shock there.  Of course, he has no receivers at the moment other than Percy Harvin and his migranes.  Actually, Percy's migranes might be the 2nd best receiver on the team.  (All kidding aside, my wife has migranes... they are a slice of awful that I'd never want any part of.)

Ochocinco to Patriots along with Haynesworth.  Haynesworth first... the guy flat out quit on the Redskins because he didn't want to play in a 3-4 and he's going to be a model citizen in New England... playing in a 3-4?  C'mon. He was good.... but he's a terrible team player.

Happy to see Ochocinco get a chance for a ring in New England though.  I've always liked him for some reason.  I don't think the Moss comparisons are accurate for him, but I think he'll be solid there.

Reggie Bush to the Dolphins.   Not sure what they're going to get out of him there.  A guy who never lived up to being anywhere near what people thought he would be.  (How does Houston look now for not picking him #1 overall again?)

- In gaming, I got into the Battlefield 3 alpha on the PC and while it's pretty impressive to play... I have a few issues with the fact that there are no manuals and everyone playing is crap-tons better than me.   I might be a bit more comfortable playing it on the PS3 (since that's where I played the most of BC2,) but still... there are some savagely good guys in those games that seemed to know the map almost instantly.   Oh, well.

- I also got a rental of Child of Eden for the 360, which has to be one of the most unique titles that I've played in a long time.  If only there was a trance vibrator attachment for the game... Oh, wait... that's been done before.

Just a very trippy game.

- As far as the 3DS news, I'm happy to hear that I'll be getting 20 games for having bought my system early, and I"m not upset about the drop in price.  I think I've gotten at least that amount of value from the console in the past 4 months, so seeing a drop like that doesn't upset me a ton.

Wednesday notes

- Wow, what a great win for the Brewers. Casey Mcgehee with a monster 3-run home run in the 7th inning.  The guy has had such a terrible streak of luck, you have to hope that this really gets him back on track.

Gallardo pitched a tremendous game giving up 1 run over 7 innings and got the win and helped the Brewers avoid a sweep from the D-Backs.

Then Axford comes in for the 9th and strikes out the side... throwing a 98 MPH fastball to put them away.  Awesome stuff.

Things had just been horrible for the team over the last few days, I'm just glad to see them get a nice win.

- I'll be posting an interview, in a few hours, that I'm sure will interest a great many of you, as I had a chance to speak with Ben Haumiller from EA Sports about NCAA 12 and it will give you a brief glimpse into my time with the game thus far.

We covered quite a few topics in regards to the game, so hopefully it will answer a lot of things that people have been wondering about in reference to this years game.

- Over at the Steam summer sale today they have the complete King's Bounty collection and those titles have always intrigued me.   Anyone have any thoughts on those?

- The other title that I've been debating picking up is Fallout: New Vegas, as it is on sale at Best Buy for $10.  I got more than a bit of enjoyment out of Fallout 3, so I figured it would be worth it at that price... but was wondering if I should wait for the inevitable GOTY edition of New Vegas.

- Other than that, I've just been annoyed at people talking about Casey Anthony on sports radio.  Until yesterday, I had no idea that Casey was a woman... and today?  I could care even less.
