More forum stuff
We have an RSS feed for the forum page as well.
That way you can be notified via whatever newsreader you use when there are posts in any of the categories there. It's what I'm using to keep track of it and it works pretty well.
Here's the link.

Thursday morning notes
- As we were reminded yesterday, the Blog fantasy football draft is taking place tomorrow night at 8:30 EST. Here are a few of the rules that you need to be aware of.
90 seconds per pick
The league has a draft robot configured for it. (One of the features of the free league from CBSSports.com) If you miss one pick, it will auto draft for you for the rest of the draft. So, it's a good idea to have your draft list ready, just in case....
It is a snake draft, so my team is picking 3rd in the first round and 10th in the second round.
That's about it, as far as the draft goes. If you check out the league page, you can see the rules for scoring and such.
Next year I might take a look at a different fantasy site that allows us to customize the rules more, but I have stuck with CBSSports for the past few years, just for simplicity's sake.
See you tomorrow evening.
- I see that we have 5 owners locked into our Madden 11 online franchise and I know that at least two others will be joining... (C'mon Dan... just grab the Pats already...)
Plenty more room if you want to join in. It's a very casual league, so just drop me an email if you want the details on it.
Same goes for the online NCAA Football 11 franchise. Just send me an email and I'll get you an invite.
- I received Mafia 2 yesterday from Gamefly and I have to say that the atmosphere in the game is quite impressive. A few of the reviews for the game have really disliked the pacing of the game, but I have always liked the way that Mafia handled it's approach to the police and the fact that if you break a law when a police officer can see you, they're going to try to arrest you for it. If you speed, they will try to arrest you. It's actually refreshing to have a game where you have to commit crimes in the game but still have to abide by some laws to avoid attracting more police attention to your character.
Lastly, I love the character dialogue used between the two main characters in the early stages of the game. The interaction between the two of them in the car while you are driving from one event to another is quite impressive. It's the first time, that I can recall, where I actually wanted to spend more time with a character in a game, just to hear more about them.
- Another preseason game for the Packers tonight. This time matching up against the Colts.
Again, nothing to really look for in the game other that individual performances. It would be nice to see Woodson play for a bit tonight though, just to see him match up against Wayne a few times. Stopping the passing game is going to be a huge key to this years success for the Packers. Something that they need to prove that they can do consistently.
- Former head coach and current athletic director for Wisconsin, Barry Alvarez, has confirmed that Wisconsin and Iowa will not be in the same division in the new Big Ten football conference layout. Add that to the rumors that Michigan and Ohio State will not be in the same conference and you have a good idea of what the Big Ten is looking to do with their new alignment. It's all about creating divisions that will generate the most hype and build to the best possible matchup in the conference championship game each year.
Post/forum integration
Ok, let's see how this all works.
Edit: Ok... so it appears to work. We'll see how well it works in the long run though.
Enjoy the new features.
One last site issue update
It appears that we were having some issues with the registration emails for people signing up for the site.
Those issues should all be resolved now.
Please let me know if you have any problems registering.
More new site stuff
So, I have added a new forum to the site. I've called it... wait for it... The Forum for the Sports Gamer.
I know... I know. It just exudes creativity.
Right now we have basic integration between the two. All user names from here are integrated into the forums. So, if you register here, you can post there. Much better than the last time we tried out a forum here.
My next hope would be to have "real integration" between the two where a post here would become a topic there and the comments would be replies there, but that's something that's going to have to wait for a bit as they're still developing that portion.
Lastly, I've added a little widget to the front page that lets you know the most recent posts that have been made on the forums, so you can track what's going on there.
Anywho... give it a try and see what you think.
A new old voice
Since Dan does not seem to post anymore, I'll be joining Glen (and I guess we'll count Dan too) here at SGB. For those of you that don't know me, my name is Craig Tompkins and I'm the founder and original owner of Operation Sports. That's right, I'm to blame for giving Dan his start writing reviews. Let me apologize for that so that we can move on. I haven't been writing much of anything recently, but I do still have my ear to the ground.
So I'll be posting from time to time and it will probably not all be sports gaming related, but I promise I will not be talking politics. One political windbag here is enough
Fantasy football league invites sent
Let me know if you didn't get one and were wanting one.
I have a temporary draft date set for August 27th, at 8:30 PM EST. We'll see if that works for everyone, but it's just a placeholder.
Site updates
So, the site has a new look to it now.
More than anything, I just got tired of the default look of the WordPress theme. So, we went live with a new look. We might make some more modifications to it as time goes on, but now you have the insight into the whole process of the change.
One of the nicer changes that comes along with it has to do with the categories that are listed at the top of the page. Say you're looking for a post about football, just move your mouse over sports, and then click football and you'll see all of the posts that we've put in that category. Or if for some reason you're trying to find a post from Dan, you'll be able to just click on Dan at the top and you'll find all of his.
I'll be trying to go back and add more categories and put some of the old posts into categories, but it'll be an ongoing process. It may be a waste of time, but it seems like a good idea at the moment.
New look to the site
I'll be cleaning it up over the next day or so, but figured I would mention it... just in case people actually look at the site rather than the RSS feed.
Taking calls on the daily show starting tonight.
Stop on over to www.sportsgamesandmore.com and get the info on the call in plan.
Madden NFL 11 interview
Here is a recent interview that I did with Phil Frazier, Senior Producer for Madden NFL 11.
The interview is just a bit over 38 minutes in length, but we cover quite a few topics.

- The change to the 3-click kick meter and how play-testing brought about the change. (17:40)
- Issues with AI, kick returning, sound problems that were in the demo and whether or not they will be fixed in the retail version (20:45)
- Adding Gus Johnson to the play-by-play booth (23:35)
- Will their be adjustments to the advertising drops (Verizon and Old Spice) (26:10)
- Camera angle changes? (27:45)
