Friday Morning Gaming Roundup…

  • First off, NHL Arcade 3-on-3 is very fun. I don't know why 360 owners got the shaft this week but it's okay, you'll get it next week. Again, if you like hockey with "goalie shrink" power ups and "Super Goalie" power ups, you'll enjoy this. The power ups aren't horribly stupid and actually make the game fun. For $10, it's very enjoyable.
  • The demo for MLB 09 gives you 3 innings between the Phillies and Rays. Apparently Citizens Bank thought it would be a great way to offset some of their banking f ups, because their logo is accurately detailed throughout the park -- it does make the experience much more realistic.
  • The demo itself isn't horribly different from last year as far as the basic gameplay mechanics go -- they've added many bells and whistles including a quick menu and better swing/pitch tracking which is a very nice feature.
  • One thing noticed off the bat (heh). The announcers call attention to the umpires and call them by name -- so if it's a bad call you'll get a comment like "(name of ump) is usually one of the better ones, but that call was marginal" or something like that-- I am paraphrasing here. I thought it was a very nice touch.
  • I ran out of time and wasn't able to play the new golf course or the new bowlers or the new burnout multiplayer add on.
  • What a great night of gaming on the PS3 though!!
  • A follow up on the Amazon Deal from a few days ago: Guinness Book of World Records for Wii is surprisingly fun and requires some pretty good athleticism. I was exhausted after playing the "eat 10 cockroaches in the fastest time" mini game.
  • Finally, today's Amazon Deal is NFS Undercover for $40
