POS Gateway Computer, RIP

Last night when I got home I went to check my email. I kept getting a blue screen of death on my Windows Vista PC about a write error. I was thinking, oh crap, sounds like a hard drive failure.

I replaced the drive and reinstalled Vista. Easy enough, right? Nope. Still BSOD and when I booted in safe mode it was saying it was encountering errors when writing to memory. WTF?

Suffice it to say, even if I can get this working again, I think it's pretty much borked. I only had the gateway for 16 months before it failed. I really liked the computer.

I was hoping to wait for a new desktop until Windows 7 comes out, but I guess that's not going to happen for me.

I used overnight shipping and got an off the shelf Velocity Micro i7 Quad Core with 8GB Ram and a 1TB HD. It was only $1K at Amazon. Boy, did I not want to spend 1K on a computer, but I don't have any choice.  I'm typing this on my wife's MacBook and that is soooo not an option for me :) .

One quick item: make sure you have a good backup. Thank goodness for Carbonite.com...I hope to restore my HD within the evening of getting my new PC....

And finally in the RIP dept, sorry to hear about the Bird and the Phillies announcer. I actually got to see the Bird pitch -- it was July 3 1976 at Memorial Stadium...I was 4 but I remember it. It was fireworks night at Memorial Stadium...and the place was mobbed..I remember having to walk a looong way to the stadium with my mom and dad because of the traffic...I don't remember who won but I remember the Bird and the fireworks.
