Having covered the basics of the game in the first part of my guide, I’ll now take a look at the MVP mode. I’ll be splitting up the MVP mode guide into 2 sections, just for easier reading. The first part will cover the options before you get into the MVP mode, and the second part will cover all of the information that I’ve been able to put together in regards to all of the menus and gameplay options for the MVP mode as well as the actual gameplay information.

For those of you that are fans of The Show for the PS2, the MVP mode included in Pro Yakyuu Spirits 4 is very similar. You take control of a single player and only play when they are involved in the game. For example, if you’re a pitcher, you only see the action when you are pitching. If you’re in a game without a DH though, you see the batter before you (which is pretty cool, like you’re in the on-deck circle) and take control of your at bats.

Once you begin the mode, after choosing New or Continue, the first option screen presents you with two choices, Recommended (Top Option) or Professional (Bottom Option.) Recommended mode gives hints on what menus you’ll be accessing and Pro mode skips the comments. For your first time through, I would suggest the Recommended mode for the hints. Even though you won’t understand the hints, it guides you through which menu options you’ll be accessing. After you get the hang of it though, the Pro mode is just fine.

The following option asks you whether you would like to play with an Official schedule or an Abbreviated schedule. The full season option has a “40″ in the text and the short season option has a “10″ in the text. I’m not entirely sure what the 40 or 10 means, as it’s not the amount of games in the seasons, but it does make it easier to identify the option you want. (Edit: Thanks to our translator for help with this.)

Next, you’re presented with three options. MVP Hero, Original/New Player, or Real + Original.

The MVP Hero option allows you to choose from 12 pre-created players and add them to any of the 12 teams in the game. There are 6 pitchers, ranging from starters to relievers, a combination of 4 infielders and outfielders, and 2 catchers.

The Original/New Player option allows you to create your own player with the very in depth player customization engine.

Finally, the Real + Original option lets you take any of the real players on any of the teams and play as them.

If you want to play the MVP mode right away with a player with good skills, try the Real + Original option. If you want a decent challenge, try the MVP Hero option. The players that you can choose there are fair, but not great. If you want the greatest challenge, go with the Original/New Player option. Your player will have very low level talent and you’ll really have to work to improve them.

After you’re done with selecting or creating your player, you’ll be given a lot of text. Basically, the game is telling you what is expected of your player. I’m still not sure what you’ll obtain if you complete these objectives, but I would think that it would either be skill points for your player or VP points for the game.

Here are the important things to note from this text that is given.
[Position/Standpoint:立場], [Goal/Target:目標], and [Annual Salary:年俸]
(Edit: Thanks again to our translator for this information.)

That will do it for the first section of the MVP guide. Read on for Section 2.
